Park sacles Broad Peak and is two short of Himalayan Crown

ISLAMABAD — Korean ace Park Young-Seok (37) is leaving for home on Saturday after successfully scaling Broad Peak 8047 metres,

The Korean ace is now having 12 8000ers to his credit and 13th Shishapangma he will be attempting in less than 15 days.

Five Koreans and one Pakistani high altitude porter Nisar Hussain from Sadpara reached the summit on July 30 around 10:00 am.

"I feel great and I am very happy," said Park Young Seok who led the expedition.

"The mountain is there and I will come for it again," said the 37 year old who is now leaving for Nepal for Shishapangma.

It will be the third 8000er for Park Young Seok in the current season who scaled Makalu on May 15 followed by Broad Peak on July 30.

Park Young Seok also attempted Broad Peak last year (The Nation has the exclusive)  but called off the expedition as one of the climbers met a tragic death during the climb.

Park has made the summits of all the 8000ers without using oxygen except (Kanchenjunga) and they are Everest, Cho Oyu, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Nanga Parbat, Manaslu, Makalu and Broad Peak.

Answering a query he said," The weather on K-2 was very bad, it was snowy and windy and very bad for climbing."

I stayed at the K-2 Base Camp."

"The mountain is there for me to climb."

Other members who reached the summit are: Kim Hyoung Woo, Kang Seong Gyu (34), Oh Hee Joon (31), Lee Hyun Jo (29).

Chung Young Mok reached 7000 metres and Shin Un Hoon managed the Base Camp. The team made standard camp sites on the route.
