ISLAMABAD — Czech expedition left for home early Wednesday morning after finding the mountain and weather too inhospitable for climb.

Forty-seven year old Jozef Rybicka from Czech Republic led the 10 member expedition which also comprised of two Spanish climbers.

For Spanish climber Carlos Soria it was his fourth unsuccessful bid on Broad Peak and he was perhaps the oldest climber on the Base Camp with 61 years.

He came for Broad Peak in 1979, over two decades ago managing 6500 metres, he tried again in 1992 but was unlucky reaching 7400 metres and in 1999 he managed 6800 metres.

Carlos has the distinction of being the oldest climber with three 8000ers summits Nanga Parbat 1990, Gasherbrum II 1994, and Cho Oyu 1999.

Jozef Rybicka in his brief discussion with this scribe before his departure said," Three climber from our expedition reached 7000 and above while the remaining climbed up to 6500 metres and a little more."

"Carlos Soria made it to 7700 metres while two Czech climbers Jozef Kubicek (50) and Kamiz Bortel (35) reached 7000 metres before turning back due to bad weather."

Dr Roman Vrbka the Czech expedition doctor also treated the Hungarian team doctor cum climber Gabor Vida  who was struck by a rock in early June on his leg.
