Cherry Vette
Cherry Vette

Josh's Baby

This Cherry Vette belongs to Josh Thurston. He bought the car about 4 years ago with very low miles on it. This car is driven but only on good days. Josh worked his butt off to get this car. I think it took him and his dad about a year to find the right one. I tried to talk Josh into pulling the factory system right away while everything worked and put a small set up in but he didn't want to vary from factory. Well anyone who has had a Delco Bose system knows they don't last and they are not cheap to fix. Enter me, his dad and a very long day.

There was no discussing it, the car had to remain stock in apperance. I removed the factory encloser behind the sill plate and made a new one to fit in it's place. I put a set of the Boston NX series 5 1/4s in the front locations. These speakers are awesome. For a coax I would put them up against a set of MB Quarts any day.(And for the record I am a HUGE Quart fan)

As for the back we dropped the amp in one of the rear pockets. It was a nice tight fit and didn't need to be secured. That way no screw holes. The rear speakers are raw Lanzar 6 1/2s. I used the factory port encloser and added some fiber fill to help control the speaker. They give better bass than the factory ones did. The completed system ended up being louder and clearer than the bose system. Plus now he has the reliability also.

As for the headunit, it is an Alpine 9847. The colors can be changed to match the factory lights and has great features. The wiring on this was a REAL pain in the ass but did finally go in and look at home. All the factory components are in a box and will go right back in when and or if the time comes to sell the Vette. This ride only has 29,000 miles on it and still smells new. I know he won't have anymore trouble with the sound system now.
