Don & Sandy's Four Winns

This 27 foot, 2004 Four Winns belongs to Don and Sandy Whittle of Pontiac. I went to High School with both of them but they didn't know anything about my shop till another client gave them my name and showed them some of my work. I don't do any advertising. I rely on word of mouth and my work to get the word around. I have been very lucky and have worked with some very good people. I gotta tell you I have worked on alot of boats and out of all of them this is the one I would want. Not only is it made in Michigan, the quality of the boat itself is great. Four Winns has a great reputation and the layout of this boat is how I would want mine to be.

The boat came with a Clarion Head unit and matching marine speakers. This head does have the satalite radio and is a cd changer controler also. Don wanted more balanced sound and some bass. I left the front speakers alone and kept them on the heads power. That way Sandy and the "girls" can have music and still talk and hear each other. I did add some bass blockers to clean up the overall sound.

I did add a set of Clarion 6 1/2 inch component speakers to the drivers area. Now these are for Don mostly. He couldn't hear anything when they were running at a good clip. (The boat does around 65 MPH) He should be able to hear it now.

The sub is a JL Audio W1V2 10" 4ohm. This sub is great in this type of install. With the plastic cone and rubber surround it will hold up good in a marine environment. We did leave the rear speakers in place but hooked them to the amp.

Here's where the fun is. Don's an old "gearhead" and knows the meaning of power. He wanted the same for the boat. We have a Volvo 496cid motor with the twin prop outdrive. On the far side is the system power. A TMA 3404, 4channel amp is the main power for the system. It runs the sub and all 6 speakers in the drivers area. It has built in crossovers and is a great amp for the money. I did add a fuse right above the battery and a 1 farad cap next in line. Next year we may add another sub and an amp to run the pair of subs. We will see how it goes and if they think they need it.
