This is my old 1985 K-5,Chevy Blazer. This truck was originally bought to be my hunting truck. But when a couple of good buys came along, it turned into a party truck also. It had 11 speakers , 3 batteries, two alternators, 1,875 watts, and a 27" subwoofer. Plus a nice small block 406cid motor. Just pop the top and I had tunes to go.
I put dual alternators in the truck so I could handle the truck and stereo batteries seperatly. One 85amp. ran the main battery, just for the truck and main accs. Then the other, a 100 amp. model, was just for the two spare batteries. The two were totally seperate from each other. I could run the stereo for about 4 hours at full volume and not have to worry about the truck not starting.
I put two 1,000cca batteries on the driver side and one 1,000cca on the other. Power problem, solved.
All fuses, amps,(1 power 1,000, and 1 punch 45hd), 1 farad cap, and electronic crossover, were in a custom made center console. It also had 4 cooling fans, and a temp. sensor for the digital gauge in the dash.
This is me sitting inside of the subbox that housed the 27" subwoofer. It was made by a man in Florida, and was one of the only 4ohm models that he made at the time. The box was 13 cubic feet and with the sub in it, weighed about 400lbs.
This is a backside shot of how big the subwoofer was. This is before all internal braces and filler was added.
Here is a picture of the front grill I had to make out of expanded metal. Since I couldn't just go and buy a grill cover for it I had to make something up.
These are the front pods that I made.
These are the pods that I made for the back seat area of the truck. They held a Fosgate 6 1/2" and a Kicker ND 20 tweeter. The grill is made with wood, bondo, and metal mesh, from a sat. dish.
I built up the rear floor 6 inches and carpeted it. I made it so there was a pull out drawer for storage and tools. If you notice I dont have the 27" subwoofer in the truck anymore. I sold it because I have a family now and needed the room. So I put in 2 Kicker Solobaric 12's. It wasnt the same but it would still rock! I sold this truck about a year ago, and sold the power 1000 also. (It paid for my next project, a 1951, pro street, Chevy pick-up). It will be awhile before I have it done but I have the time to wait. Meanwhile I'm working on buying a new hunting truck,(something with a warranty). I will hopefully have some pics on the page when I get the truck.(Yes Goober, I'm buying a Dodge Ram).
