Pics and Story About My Chevy Blazer
Climax Audio & Custom was started back in the early 90's, when I competed strong in the 1993 IASCA stereo competitions with my 1992 Honda Civic LX.
Climax Audio first started off as a joke between the Webmaster and myself. I was doing so many other peoples cars, trucks (including his), we decided I should do this on a larger scale.
My first real test was my Honda. I was tired of everybody telling me that I had to do it this way or that way, so in the end I read everything I could get my hands on from magazines to Richard Clark and David Nevone. I decided win or loose I was going to do it on my own terms.
In 5 months this car was completed, and thats with working at the time 55 hours a week (a second shift job). The first show I attended in 1993, was August Systems in Champaign, IL after a 12 hour shift, no shower and no sleep, I recieved a 1st place. I WAS HOOKED!
I was using a Sony headunit(XR770)controling a 10 disc changer that was mounted in the trunk. A Phoenix Gold PLD that ran to an Audio Control Epicenter then to an Audio Control EQL Series II, then to an Audio Control 4XS Crossover. Then crossed over frequencies went to each of the 4 Rockford Fosgate Punch 45 HD's. 1 amp ran 2 Kicker SoloBaric 10's mounted in a custom box in the trunk. Next amp ran 2 5 1/4" MB Quarts in rear deck and 2 3 1/2" Rockford Fosgates in a center channel. 3rd amp ran 2 MB Quart 6 1/2s in the doors. 4th amp ran 2 Kicker ND25 "silk dome" tweeters mounted in the doors. This system consistantly hit 132db, and averaged 34 on RTA score's.
Out of 15 shows I trophied at 13 of them, 1 second place 2 thirds, the rest were first. 3 were also "Best of Show". Not a bad year for someone who was told that he couldn't do it.
