| Cliftonville 2 (O'Kane 2) Ballymena Utd 2 (McNicholl) (T.Anderson) |
| Cliftonville kicked off the match to a low crowd knowing that top scorer and most infuential Ballymena player Scott Drummond was watching from the stands with injury, but almost forgot that Ballymena had other players as Nigel Bests' team went to Solitude for the win. Ballymena started the brightly winning a corner, and when the Cliftonville defence failed to clear Gerard Lyttles corner, Simon McNicholl on his debut rattled the ball past Ingham after 2 minutes. the half time whistle came ans it was then time for the Aidan O'Kane show after that. Just after the restart, 3 minutes into the second half, Chris Scanells' pass to O'Kane, was rewarded by his shot past the outstreached Callaghan from 10 yards to give Cliftonville the equaliser. 1-1, and when a lapse by Damien Davey, let Anderson to turn and shoot in one swift movement to give Ballymena the lead just after the hour. Clarke,Traenor and Mulvenna were all introduced to gain a point or three in favour of Cliftonville. Time was running out, and with 5 minutes left, Aidan O'Kane struck what he thought to be the equaliser, his second of the game, only to be ruled out for offside. Mickey Collins had a shot in the final shot, and with Callaghan pushing out the shot, there was the prodigy O'Kane to tap in the rebound to give Cliftonville a share of the spoils. |
