Match report: Lisburn Distillery April 24th 2000

The Easter Monday match against Lisburn didnt hatch any eggs, for Cliftonville, but the Easter Bunny did come for Distillery in the form of three points. The only part of the dy was the commemoration of Irelands dead from the 1916 rising!!The "crunch" match against fellow relegation strugglers Lisburn Distillery, who have been bottom since the start of the yultide, have been slowly making good progress, colecting vital points  and putting in some good performances along the way.Another low crowd at Solitude greeted the players whih surely didnt help the players as a poor half was proceed towards the suporters of both teams,
The second half got underway and Lisburn got of to a flyer. Findlay got past Hartley, and with only to sloy the ball into the empty net, ever reliable Marty Tabb hauled him down in Cliftonville fashion. a penalty was awarded and, was struck , but superbly saveds by the Cliftonville keeper, deflecting off the crossbar, onto the post, rebounding to Findlay at the edge of the box, and Armor, smashing in a vital goal. The Whites were ahead, an this spurred them on to apply heavier pressure on Hartleys goal. More pressure again from Lisburn went with out reward.
Findlay then played again another part in Cliftonvilles destruction, by giving them a two goal lead, by nicking the ball of Hartley, who seemed to have it under control, but lost it, and the ball was  duely converted, by a curling shot into the far corner by Findlay.
Contrary pressure by Cliftonville on the Distillery goal, wasnt rewarded by brilliant goalkeeping by the Lisburn no.1, with Rooney coming close on a couple of occasions                                                             . A woeful performance is being lenient, but clearly a total lack of organisation and commitment by the players. This defeat at home, is inreasingly dangerous as we slide towards the relegation stop. Possibly another play-off could be had this year, but hopefully not. A point against the Glens at the Oval on Saturday, will secure our relegation worries, and keep us up in the Premier for another year.
