Match Report:
Cliftonville-V-Glentoran
(C.Scannel 82)
Glentoran 0
Cliftonville consolidated their third place spot in
the table with a victory over Glentoran who now find themselves languishing in
fifth place eighteen points off the pace.
The first half was a fairly lacklustre affair with a Colin Nixon header from a
Justin McBride corner after ten minutes and Chris Scannell's effort after 28
minutes in which he outpaced Glentoran defender John Kennedy to send a low shot
inches wide being the only moments of note.
Cliftonville almost snatched the lead seconds after the restart when Patrick
Wall somehow headed a Barry Rooney cross wide with the goal at his mercy.
With 68 minutes gone David Rainey let fly with a powerful volley from a Justin
McBride corner but luckily for Cliftonville veteran defender Peter Murray
cleared the ball off the line.
From preventing a goal at one end Murray was involved in getting one at the
other. With seven minutes left on the clock he carried the ball 60 yards down
the left wing, delivered a cross for Chris Scannell who promptly headed the ball
past Glens 'keeper Alan Gough for his sixth Premiership goal of the season.
