SOLITUDE
Main Stand:
The main structure of Solitude, is ironically the Main Stand! This two teir stand with a distinct red and white checkered strip running horizontal across the entre of the stand, is famous over Ireland for this striking feature. The infastructure, with two teirs seated and terracing, the top being the seated, and the latter the terracing. It covers about half of the side of the pitch, with the club-shop to the left of the stand as you view it, with the other half containing a car-park. to the left, right and center it can be clearly seen the three floodlight poles for night games. Recently the first night game against Linfield for years was played infront of a partizan crowd. It was a feverish games in which the Reds lost. Hopefully the stadium can be revamped to a higher stature and quality to become Irelands finest club ground.
The Cage:
Solitudes, famous terrace. This suberb infastructure, the home of the ardent and more vocal Cliftonville fans. Its name derives from the vertical cage-like structure which prevents access to the playing field spans, from the base, to the roof of the covered terrace. It rivals St.Patricks Athletics' "Shed" and likewise Cork Citys "Shed" also as reguards covered terraces in Ireland. It can house up to a maximum of 5,500 supporters, and definately did when Marty Tabb lifted the Gibson Cup on a cloudy afternoon in the championship winning season of 1997/1998, when Glentoran were the visitiors. It used to hold Northern Ireland internationals until Windsor Park, home of Linfield Fc. took it over as it was revamped and increased in capacity. Currently Solitude an hold up to a maximum of 9,800. Recently, it held a Northern Ireland U18 international match. Cliftonville Olympic and Cliftonville Strollers frequently play matches here also.
