Brownies Have Fun Outdoors

Star Gazing

We spent an hour outside in the winter during a meeting. We had photocopied star charts showing which constellations we would be able to see. We found some useful information at Science Net

We saw :
  • The Plough (Great Bear)

  • Seven Sisters

  • The Pole Star (North Star)

  • Orion

Wildlife Safari

We organised for the local Park Rangers to come to a nearby lake and tell us about wildlife. We had to find insects for her to identify with us.

The Ranger knew a lot about the bugs we found - including a dung beetle and a spider like this one, except it didn't move so fast!

We collected the insects in plastic cups from deep in the grass and from the
branches of bushes. When we showed them to the Ranger she told us what they
were called and a bit about how they live.
