Welded Components |

| I decided to weld some of the
components instead of buying them. I'll buy the engine mount and a few other
parts that I don't feel like dealing with. I used Chro-Moly steel with mild
steel "RG45" welding rod. My torch is a Smith system using a 1,3, or 5 tip
as appropriate. Due to steel's high fatigue resistance surface finish is not
critical. The stuff rusts fast in high humidity and must be primed within a
couple of days or sand-blasted. I used threaded inserts from the "aircraft
spruce" catalogue instead of bolts for threaded ends. Be careful with
your angle grinder as it will remove skin fast if you slip. Ensure you have
no flammable material nearby when grinding due to the intense shower of
incandescent metal bits.
