"Awards from the ALA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund" AMERICAN LIBRARIES, August 2006 Troop 33 was featured in American Libraries for their donation of $3,000 to the American Library Association Katrina Relief Fund. Troop 33 Scouts biked 500 miles from Memphis, TN to New Orleans, LA to raise the money. "Katrina Check Presentation to ALA" ALA COGNOTES, June 25, 2006 A photo depicting Troop 33 Scouts presenting a $3,000 check to the American Library Association was included in on the front page of the ALA Cognotes during their national convention in New Orleans. The page highlights our efforts in providing assistance after Hurricane Katrina. "Sailing on Slivers of Steel" SCOUTING MAGAZINE Jan/Feb 2004 This describes an ice boating trip that Troop 33 participated in at Wisconsin's Lake Geneva in March 2003. "Southwest Adventure" AMERICAN SCOUTING DIGEST Summer 2004 Issue This describes a high adventure tour Troop 33 did of Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, which also included kayaking on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. "The Scout World" BOYS LIFE MAGAZINE June 1940 Issue (no link-see below) This monthly feature included photos and captions from around the nation edited by James E. West. One photo depicts Troop 33 Eagle Scout David Romeis of DeKalb, Illinois being presented the Hornaday Award for distinguished service to wildlife by Scout Executive E.F. Schmidt. David helped secure a 3300 acre bird and wildlife preserve. To promote the sanctuary he gave addresses and wrote articles on conservation.
