
Club Constitution
Service With A Smile (S.W.A.S.)
Article I. Club Information
The name of this club will be Service With A Smile aka S.W.A.S. at Clear Lake High School, Houston, Texas
Article II. Purposes
Section 1. To learn more about the community and to provide students with volunteering opportunities.
Section 2. To organize monthly service projects (approximately 2-3 each month) that will benefit both students in service hours and the organizations volunteered at.
Section 3. To promote student unity in CLHS.
Section 4. To aid students in achieving necessary hours for other school organizations, such as NHS and PALS.
Article III. Officers and Duties
Section 1. The president will officiate at meeting and see that work of the club goes forward. He or She will act as the spokesperson of the club, handling member questions and other concerns. The president's main responsibility will be the organization of the monthly projects and setting meeting dates. He or she will also act as the liaison between the sponsor and the club.
Section 2. The vice-president will assist the president. He or She will also act as interim president in the president's absence. He or She will also aid in the organizing the monthly service projects and help in the promotion of the club, such as creating flyers and providing school announcements.
Section 3. The secretary will keep an accurate list of official members, a record of their attendance at meetings, and a written record of the activities of the club, including minutes of the meetings. The secretary's main responsibility will be to keep track of the points of each member. He or She must provide a monthly check of member�s points, in which the continuation of membership will be decided.
Section 4. The treasurer will collect dues and pay all bills. He or She will handle orders for shirts and keep record of all club purchases (such as t-shirts, copy fees, etc.). He or She will keep track of all receipts.
Section 5. The historian will update and create the SWAS website. He or She will update the site whenever needed, providing members a way to be informed of club activities. He or She will also take pictures throughout the year and put it on the website. For the ending banquet, he or she will create a slideshow and a scrapbook.
Section 6. The bookkeeper will handle all club emails and letters. He or She will create/supervise the email list and make any changes necessary to the list. He or She will also write emails to the club whenever needed informing members of activities. The bookkeeper will also create a club directory if needed. He or she will keep all flyers and other documents in a binder.
Section 7. All officers will handle volunteering events and organization of them monthly.
Article IV. Qualifications and Duties of Sponsor
Section 1. The Sponsor shall be a teacher approved by the principal.
Section 2. The Sponsor shall guide the club in its activities and relations with other clubs in the school.
Article V. Membership
Section 1. Membership is open to all students of CLHS.
Section 2. Membership will be evaluated on a point system handled by the secretary, in which meetings, shirt-days, and service projects will be weighed differently according to club importance.
Section 3. Good citizenship standing of each member will be reviewed periodically.
Article VI. Membership Dues
Section 1. Dues will be collected at the beginning of the year to officiate membership.
Article VII. Meetings
Section 1. The club will meet regularly at CLHS gym, auditorium, or commons on Tuesdays at 2:40 pm.
Section 2. Special meetings may be called by the president.
Article VIII. Committees
Section 1. The president and sponsor shall be nonvoting members of the committee.
Section 2. The SWAS committee will handle volunteering events and the organization of them monthly.
Section 3. The SWAS committee will be formed through application by student members. There will be a fixed number of committee members from each grade level.
Section 4. The president and vice president will be chairpersons of the committee.
Article IX. Amendments
Section 1. This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the membership at any regular meeting. Written notice of the proposed amendment must be filed with the secretary and presented at the meeting held just before the one at which a vote will be taken.
Article X. Elections
Section 1. Officers will be elected annually by a secret ballot. Majority wins.
