The Technical: A Concept of Regulating. Jim Geiger has accepted an invitation to present this months' technical. "The class is a different way of thinking about regulating. It is mainly a way of organizing the work into a simpler format. It reduces regulating to its simplest terms. "

A short Bio: 1956 graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory with certificate in Piano Technology.  1979 became Craftsman (RPT) member of The Guild.  1985-1995 Instructor of Piano Technology at Houston Community College. Presently keyboard technician at Morehead State University in Kentucky.  I have been chapter president, vice president and exam chairman and taught at chapter, regional and national conventions.  I am now on the Institute Committee, and  Director Emeritus of the Foundation.     Jim Geiger

Come show your chapter support for this guest from out of town.
Hope to see you there!   D Bratton

Last Months' technical was well attended as Jim Moon explained the ins and outs or rescaling. Jim has had great success with improving scales on pianos in both sound and tuning improvements.

Here are two points that he wanted to add to his presentation.

There are two details that need to be pointed out: 1 - I showed the engineers scale but totally neglected to point out that it's really necessary to have two of them. One needs to have the hook removed. With the hook on it's not possible to get accurate measurements under the capo.   I actually cut mine off exactly at the 1 inch line because I wasn't sure merely removing the hook would be exactly at the zero line. I also rounded it off to make it easier to get in tight under the capo. That way I get the most accurate measurement.

  2. It's best to use a pencil when filling out the data on the blank form just so corrections can be made easily.

Thanks Jim for another good technical.  (He makes it look so easy)      D Bratton

In other news ........ Another successful Winter party has come and gone.
A big round of applause for our host Bob Bergantino, Bob Russell, and Deb.

New Membership :  Bill Wiley has formally applied for membership to the chapter. This should come up for a vote at our February Meeting.

At last months meeting..... the chapter discussed a possible date for our trip to Boston and tour of Mason Piano Factory.  Monday April 4th was selected as a date for the tour.  This has been approved by the factory.  Many options and detail have yet to be figured out.  I hope we will have some things ready for discussion at this months' meeting.
