June Technical -
Tuning hammer technique:
An outstanding program by Ken Slater. The
program explored the many factors in moving a string/setting pitch. Topics
included, string lag, bending pins, termination points, twist in
pins, types of hammers & heads, winding factors,
grands vs. uprights, Left handed or right, finding what is going on, the
reasons behind it, how best to obtaining a stable tuning, and
more. Ken is one of our chapter's gems for
technicals. He presents a mastery of his topic, extensive research, and
has a easy - effective - communication style. Thank you Ken.

P.S. (For me, stability is the main challenge I have to meet every day.)
Technical Director's Message
Stu Freedman Cleveland Chapter Vice President and Technical Director
To all the Cleveland PTG members:
First, I would like to thank you for trusting me to do a good job as your vice
president and technical coordinator. I will do my best to keep things
interesting.
So the second thing I would like to do in this capacity is to ask all of
you for your input. Let's face it, every day something comes up that is a
curiosity. It's what keeps this profession interesting and keeps us
growing in our technical, business, and inter-personal skills. What
questions do you have? What makes you stare down a problem? What light
bulb went off? What solution did you "discover"? Did you read
something in the Journal or elsewhere that makes you
curious? What topics would you like explored?
Someone much more experienced and wiser than I said that if you want to
understand a topic, teach it. Who would like to step up to the plate and
give a technical? We have many talented people in this chapter with diverse
interests and experiences. Something that you do on a regular basis might be a
new approach to someone else. Consider something you would like to research and
share.
Have you been inspired by a seminar at a national or regional institute?
How about one of the Journal writers? Would you like to see them present at a
meeting technical or even a full day special seminar?
My e-mail address is
[email protected].
Please write me with your thoughts. The August meeting at Jerry Paluck's
will explore tech topics, but don't wait until then to express your ideas.
I need to start setting up technicals for the Fall and would appreciate any
input now.
Lastly, consider the past technicals. They have been well organized and
informative. Thanks to everyone who has presented one. So send in
those ideas and see you in August. Have a good summer and thank you
for reading this note.

Chapter Meeting Minutes
June 14th 2004
Meeting was called to order at 9:30 following a technical by Ken Slater on
Hammer Technique.
There were 18 in attendance;17 members and 1 visitor, David Hower of
Cleveland.
Financial report was given and is available from the Chapter's
treasurer, Rod Summerlin upon request.
Tech. Program Committee:
Members will meet at Gerry Paluck's for the August meeting to discuss ideas
and schedule for upcoming technicals. Suggestion or ideas should be called or
e-mailed to Stu Freedman in the mean time.
Unfinished Bus:
A host for the annual chapter picnic in September is still needed.
Two new applicants were voted on and accepted into membership; they are
the husband &wife team of Robert and Miriam Thayer of Austinburg, OH.
Welcome!
New Bus:
President Bob Russell reviewed and received input on the issues he will vote
on as our delegate in Nashville. Most noteworthy was a proposal to hire an
outside firm to overhaul the PTG website at a projected cost of $21,000.00,
being offset by an increase in members dues. A majority of members vetoed this
proposal after some debate.
Respectfully submitted, John Mancino, Secretary
