Yahoo Fantasy Football Rules

Yahoo Fantasy Football is based on real clubs and real players playing in real games in the Barclaycard Premiership. Each week you choose 11 players of your choice and then you gain points from their performance, e.g. If you have chosen Steven Gerrard and he scores you will gain 5 points. However if your players perform badly they will lose points, e.g. If Steven Gerrard scores an own goal you will lose 5 points.

Anyone can join the game between the 2nd August 2004 and 14th May 2005 which is when the Premiership season ends. The contest is divided into weekly periods that begin each Saturday at midnight and conclude the following Friday. The deadline to make lineup changes for the upcoming week is 10:59 a.m. GMT each Saturday.

As a manager in Yahoo Fantasy Football you will be given 100 units to build your team, this is called your salary cap. However as your player performs, his points value may rise or fall, enabling you to buy different players at different values. In a new rule brought in this year, if your players value rises so does your salary cap. This means that you can buy a player cheap and when he performs well and his points value increases you can sell him and you will have more points to buy another player as your salary cap will have increased, e.g. if Steven Gerrard scores a goal his value might increase by 3.5 points, if you sell him your salary cap will then be 103.5 points. However this can also be a disadvantage because if you buy a player too expensively and his value decreases you have less points to spend on other players. Players unit values are decided after every match based on the players real-life performance and will be computed and updated by Monday morning. Managers receive market value for the players when they are sold and no player can have a unit value of less than 1.00.

Each week you must choose a line-up of 11 players (including 1 goalkeeper), if you do not have a full team you will not receive any points for the week. There are various formations to choose enabling you to have different numbers of defenders, midfielders and attackers. To switch your team's formation, simply choose one of the four options shown at the top of the Change Formation page. You will then be able to select which players you wish to move from the old formation to the new one. The deadline to make lineup changes for the next week's games is 10:59 a.m. GMT every Saturday (the first deadline is Saturday, August 14, and the final deadline is Saturday, May 14). Any change made after the deadline will not take effect until the following week. You do not need to reset your line-up each week. If no changes are made, your line-up will be carried forward to the next week.

All teams receive fantasy points based on each player's actual performance in several statistical categories. Each category has a specific point value associated with it (see chart below), and teams receive points for all 11 players in their lineup. If a player appears in more than one game during any given week, his total fantasy points for the week will be based on the sum of his real-life stats for the week.
