7 Round Browns Mock Draft
     Last Updated: 3-25-02
Pick: Levi Jones, OT, Arizona State, 6'5", 306 lbs, 5.20

Comments: His potential is head and shoulders above anyone else. Some list him as a guard, but he's going to be a tackle. He can pass block with the best and his run blocking is just super. Very athletic. With his combination of foot quickness, instincts, and overall athleticism, he is a project with huge upside.
The Latest: His stock may climb. At the combine, he dropped a few pounds which slightly brought up his forty time. He showed impressive footwork in his drills. At his Pro Day, he benched the 225 pounds 24 times.
Round 1 (#16)
Round 2 (#47)
Pick: Larry Tripplett, DT, Washington, 6'2", 305 lbs, 4.93

Comments: He's a big man. He's probably the best pure run stuffer in the draft, so he really stuffs up the middle for opposing defenses. He gets double and triple teams all the time, but he fights through them and makes plays. He has developed into a surprisingly adept interior pass rusher. Very durable. He'll pick up enough sacks to keep a defensive coordinator happy.
The Latest: Rebounded nicely at the combine after a sub-par Senior Bowl performance. He had under a 5 second forty for being a 300+ pound man. Impressive.
Round 3 (#79)
Pick: Martin Bibla, OG, Miami (Fla.), 6'3", 305 lbs, 5.28

Comments: He is a solid blue-collar worker who gets a good jump on the ball. This is necessary to his success, as he is limited athletically. Sustains blocks and plays to the whistle. Would be better served with a lower base. He's very consistent, so you don't have to worry about what he's going to give you week to week. Has an outstanding motor and plays with a mean streak. Overly aggressive at times, which are the only times he gets himself into trouble. Will get beaten with a double move, or a quicker defensive tackle. Very durable, while starting the last 36 games in a row for the Hurricanes. Has excellent fundamentals and plays at a level high enough to succeed as a starter in the NFL.
The Latest: Had a slow forty time for a guy his size, but he looks like a marginal pro prospect. He didn't stand out for the Hurricanes, but that may have been partly due to the talented players he played with.
Round 4 (#101)
Pick: Najeh Davenport, FB, Miami (Fla.), 6'1", 244 lbs, 4.51

Comments: He's a better runner than blocker. He's big, fast and has good hands. Limited ability in the open field. He'll run you over. He'd be the featured guy for 99% of college teams. Played fullback because of a logjam with James Jackson and Clinton Portis at running back in 2000. Could be a featured back, but he would be better served as a top all-around fullback.
The Latest: He was slowed due to a groin strain and a cramp in his right foot. He broke that same foot a few weeks before the National Title game.
Round 4 (#111)
Pick: Josh Thornhill, ILB, Michigan State, 6'2", 244 lbs, 4.66

Comments: He can play inside or outside. Will be a hard hitter at the next level. Has the speed and talent to rush the quarterback and stop the run. He's got good size and is very versatile.
The Latest: He looks like a solid backup who could push for some playing time.
Round 5 (#137)
Pick: Melvin Paige, OL, South Carolina, 6'5", 313 lbs, 5.25

Comments: One of the more underrated and unknown offensive lineman prospects. Scouts aren't sure whether hes a guard or a tackle in the NFL. Truth is, he could probably play either. He has surprisingly quick feet, and is very agile out there, although his technique needs some work. Hes got all the skills to succeed in the NFL, but he hasnt been tested much at the college level. In the ground game, hell do his job, but he doesnt always finish the job. He is lousy in pass protection. He may have to play guard if he can't become a more effective pass blocker.
The Latest: If he puts all his focus on football, he could turn out to be a steal.
Round 5 (#143)
Pick: Marquand Manuel, S, Florida, 6'0", 205 lbs, 4.54

Comments: He has nice size and speed. He's versatile and is a steady producer.
The Latest: Should prove to be a good pick.
Round 6 (#181)
Pick: Tracy Wistrom, TE, Nebraska, 6'4", 244 lbs, 4.88

Comments: Brother of Rams DE, Grant. Played most of the year around 235. Needs some work on blocking, but most of his faults have to do with the fact he gets pushed around. He has good speed for a tight end his size. A good receiver over the middle with strong hands, who can get deep. Caught a ton of balls in a run, run, run Nebraska offense. After a fine junior season, he just couldn't seem to stay healthy this season.
The Latest: He will be used as a receiving tight end. With some improvement in his blocking and some added bulk, he could develop into a starter down the road.
Round 7 (#213)
Pick: Raheem Brock, DE, Temple, 6'3", 263 lbs, 4.82

Comments: Is pretty fast off the snap and can rush the quarterback with aggressiveness.
The Latest: Looks like a player who could add some useful depth.
