After the Christmas holidays, Mavel and got
tired of hanging around Quezon City, so on a moment's notice and without
reservations, we grabbed the Victory Liner and headed out to Olongapo.
Upon reaching Baloy Beach, we found that most of the hotels were fully
booked. So I sat Mavel down at the Blue Rock with a cold mango juice
while I went hunting for a hotel. I think I managed to examine almost
every hotel on Baloy beach before we found a place to stay. Mangrove Hotel This is the first hotel you encounter on
Baloy Beach Rd. and it is also the newest hotel in the area. It was
just completed in latter part of 2001. The rooms are quite nice and a
good bargain at +/- P1500. The only problem with this hotel is there is
no beach here. The ocean comes right up to the sea wall. However,
they do have a nice, albeit small, swimming pool right by the water's
edge. Phone them at country code 63 phone number 47-222-7009. Sheaven's Resort Mavel and I stayed here the first time we
came to Baloy Beach. Most of the rooms were rather small and were
renting for P1000 which included cable TV, air conditioning and hot
water. At the north end of the hotel there are 2 rooms on each floor
that are about 30% larger than the other rooms and rented for the same
price. There is bit of a beach at this hotel, but only at low
tide. On our last trip during the holidays, they only had 1 room
available and the manager was asking P2500. I guess they charge
whatever the market will bear. Needless to say, I continued on down the
road in search of another hotel. However, I've got to give them high
marks for their restaurant ... good food, cheap prices. You can call
them at country code, 63, phone number 47-223-9430. Blue Rock Just about 100 feet from Sheaven's is the Blue Rock Hotel. This is where Baloy Beach really begins. It is undoubtedly the nicest beach front hotel on Baloy Beach. At this hotel, you can walk straight out of your hotel room into the water. They have a mixture of rooms, some with hot water and some without. Cold water rooms run P1000 and the hot water rooms cost an additional P500. Their bar is the center of nightlife on Baloy beach and it's easy to meet a lot of your fellow countrymen here. I don't have their phone number, but you can make reservations by sending Leon an email at [email protected]. Carlito's Place Owned by one of Baloy family. These
are Beach Cottages and Nips Huts. Call them at country code (63)
43-222-5754. Baloy Beach Hotel This hotel is associated with Carlito's
Place. Clean, simple rooms with air conditioning and TV and a good
restaurant for P800. This hotel is across the street from the
beach. Call them at (63) 47-223-9389

Beach Boulevard Hotel This is definitely our favorite hotel on the
beach and where we spent most of our time. As you can see by the
picture, the hotel is not really fancy on the outside. In fact, it's
not really fancy on the inside either. But for only P750, you can have
air conditioned room with hot water and cable TV. And the hotel is
right on the beach. This is definitely the best bargain in the area.
There are some rooms without air conditioning for P500. He also has a
couple studio apartment type rooms with kitchens for P850 but these are
usually rented out at monthly rates for long term guests. What really
makes this hotel work is Marvin, the American owner/manager. He acted
as our guide, chauffeur, money exchange and drinking buddy. He
even took a few of us out to the bars in Subic City and paid for most of the
drinks. Call him at country code 63 , cell phone 919-210-1145. (In country call 0919-210-1145 ). Mynes Inn and Restaurant This hotel is about as basic as you get ...
no air conditioning, no hot water, no TV. But the rooms are clean and
cheap, only P500. For some reason the owners of the hotel have built a
concrete wall in front of the hotel. The wall extends out into the beach
about 50 feet and has no gate out onto the beach. Beach access is
through the bar-restaurant. Phone (63) 47-222-5755. Zab-A Beach Resort This hotel is about the same as Mynes,
except the rooms are a little more "rustic". They also cost
P500. But at least there is no obstruction out to the beach. The
bar here has the cheapest San Miguel on the beach so there are always a lot
of expats and tourists bellied up. It's a good place to meet your
buddies and hang out on the beach. Call Nida Duran at country code 63 ,
cell phone 919-478-0532. (In country call 0919-478-0532) Other Baloy Beach Hotels We didn't visit Jeanettes Inn (50
feet from Beach Boulevard and not on the beach) but from the outside this
looks like 2 modern apartments for longer term tenants. Right across
the street (on the beach) is Dax House. Down by the Blue Rock are Agathea's (47-222-2578)
and Recella's (not on the beach) both of which offer rooms with and
without air conditioning. Zanzibar is the biggest and highest class hotel in the Baloy
Beach area but too expensive for Mavel and I. Also, it's not on the
beach. Subic City I just wanted to mention the brand new Asian Reef Hotel that is located right in heart of the bar district. When we visited in January 2002, the American owner had just opened 4 ultra modern rooms that go for P1500. Upstairs from the rooms is probably the nicest go-go bar in the Subic area. Barrio Barretto Follow this link to Mango's website. By the way, the Dryden Hotel is a very nice an
economical hotel. |
