Switzerland 2007

What

Every year the centrepiece of the scout calendar year is the scout summer camp. Next year Borris scout troop are planning to travel to Switzerland for their summer camp.  The summer camp will be approx 11 days long that will involve us travelling through 5 different countries.  The trip will end up with a visit to Disneyland Paris.

Where

Adelboden is set in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland at a height of 1400m in the Swiss Alps.  Adelboden is all you would imagine of a Swiss village. There are endless walks to be enjoyed along well-marked paths, or use one of Adelboden’s networks of cable cars to transport you to the mountaintop where the views are truly stunning.  In the village there is a heated swimming pool, which is free of charge to all JEKA houses.

When

July 21st to July 30th

How

We will travel from Borris to Dublin Airport in the early hours of the 21st of July to fly to Brussels airport with Ryanair.  We will be picked up by our bus in Brussels and transported to our Alpine Chalet. We will have sole use of the bus for the week that we are there, transporting us to all our activities and leisure days.

Why

The international aspect gives scouting a special appeal and many scouts now travel abroad during their time in the section. As part of our programme in Borris we have visited Scotland, France, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy in the last 7 years.  Scouts is about being with friends and making new friends as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities that life throws at us.  A trip like this one will allow scouts to experience an international trip with their friends and peers with adult supervision.  The travelling experience will give them confidence in the future when travelling. It will allow the scouts have a full input into the organisation of the trip, which will prepare them for the future when planning trips of their own.

How Much

Jeka Cost                  €300

Ryanair                       €150 approx

Activities                    €150 approx

Disney land                €150 approx

Total                            €750

Fundraise                   €200 = €4000 total  (already have €1400 raised)

What Activities

Swimming, alpine walks, alpine over night expeditions, white water rafting, mountain biking, canyoning (abseiling in gorge), chairlifts, skiing (1hr), bum boarding on glaciers, ice disco, Swiss evening.

Who

We are hoping to have 20 members travelling (max) from Borris scout troop and another 24 travelling from Bennetsbridge scout troop.  B/Bridge are a local scout troop that we have developed a very good friendship with over the years.  The 2 groups together allows us to travel cheaper, allows us to have a bus of our own for the week and have other scouts to share the experience with.

At the moment we have 12 scouts and 5 leaders going (David Clerkin, Sinead Nolan, John Lennon, John Flood, Lar Doyle).  There are also 15 adults travelling from the B/Bridge troop.

Payments

Already paid to date as a Non-refundable deposit is €50.  By the end of each month we would like to have a minimum of €50 paid as a guideline to help us get to the final payment goal of 750 euro.  As a general guideline probably €15 a week would get you to a relatively good figure come next May / June.

End of September 06  =       €100

End of October 06 =             €150

End of November 06 =         €200

End of December 06 =         € 250

End of Jan 07 =                     € 300

End of Feb 07 =                    € 350

End of Mar 07 =                    € 400

End of Apr 07 =                     € 450

End of May 07 =                    € 500

End of June 07 =                   € 750

Approx 100 – 120 euros per scout will be coming from the group for the newsletter scheme.  This will be taken off each of the scout’s individual costs. We also hope to have a similar scheme run next year from May to July, which will go towards the fund raising fees for the trip.

To allow us book tickets on Ryanair I would require to have €250 from everyone before the end of December… if its not paid the ticket prices will increase and so will the price per head… so the sooner you have it in the cheaper the price.  Anyone who wants to make lump sum payments please talk to me.  I appreciate that some families have a number of people going and payments will be more difficult. Please call in to talk to me any Tuesday night if you have any further questions.

Thanks
