Hi! I'm Cleopatra

This is a collection of a few of my favorite feline sites to visit. We don't intend to offer the standard huge exhaustive list of sites and resources, but rather those that have made an impact on us and ones that we find we return to once in awhile for the sheer pleasure and usefulness of the information provided. We hope you enjoy these selections as much as we do.

The Cats' HouseThe Cats' House - This is one of the most visually appealing sites we've seen. Very colorful, and the graphics are nothing less than outstanding. Bob Walker published a book showing the results of his 10-year effort in constructing the ultimate in feline accommodations installed in his house. The complete book contents are online for your viewing pleasure. This is one site you won't want to miss. I read recently he's working on a second book; can't wait to see it.

Freddie Street CatsThe Freddie Street Cats (they're English, so they meow with an accent) give you great advice on such topics as the juiciest mice in town, and how to housebreak your humans. There's a mouse hunting game, and even their own self-help group, Purraholics Anonymous. Freddie Street Cats has a visually appealing site with some great original art that will make you smile and stories that make for great reading.

Artist S.A. Murray has a unique artistic style. This picture is one of my favorites. Another favorite, "Playing with Time," can be seen on her site.

Meia's PageMia is one talented cat - she draws cartoons about her escapades, and I must say she gets herself into some very interesting situations! I thought I was bad, but Mia has me beat in the mischief department!Meia's self-portrait animation

To give you a little taste of her drawing skills, here is her self-portrait.

Do visit Mia's Page to see her great cartoons. They're well worth the visit alone! This is one talented (and very sly and mischievous) feline!

The Mining CompanyThis is a great resource for all types of cat-related information.  The Mining Company has since been taken over by About.com. Of particular interest is the "Cats" guide.

  • Ever wonder why cats make that odd chattering noise when watching birds, animals, bugs, etc.?  Well, I'll warn you, it isn't exactly nice! When cats catch prey and move in for the kill, they always grab at the base of the neck and bite down several times rapidly to kill quickly. That's the "chatter" - its simulating the moment of disabling their prey.

  • Cats shed more in light, and not just sunlight. Electric lights and even the glow from a TV set can cause them to shed.

  • Catnip - a plant from the mint family - contains an oil called hepetalacetone which acts on some cats like marijuana does on humans. However, not all cats are affected by catnip - kittens under the age of eight weeks actually try to avoid it. As kittens grow older, between 50-70% of them grow to be affected by catnip. This affinity is genetic.

We're always looking for more "general info" on cats to add to this site. If you have something that suits this category, please send email to Cleo, at the link on the bottom of this page.
