Thomas HAMLIN⁽²⁵⁷⁾ was born on 6 May 1710 in Massachusetts, Barnstable, Barnstable County. b. Barnstable, Mass., May 6, 1710; m. 1st, Rochester, Mass., Feb. 6, 1734, Ruth, perhaps dau. of Dea. Joshua and Mary (Hallett) Gibbs, of Agawam, now Wareham, Mass.; m. 2d. Oblong, Duchess Co. N. Y., by J. Williams, Esq., May 21, 1755, Mary Crowell, both of Oblong. It is supposed he removed removed (sic) with his father's family from Barnstable to Rochester, in the part in which is now Wareham, Mass., before 1729. A petition was signed Apr. 23, 1739, by inhabitants of Agawam precinct, among which appear the names of Thomas and Isaac Hamlin, praying for its incorporation as a separate town; which was done July 10, of that year. Thomas Hamlin and wife, Ruth, were dismissed to church in Sharon, Ct., May 30, 1742. The births of his children are recorded there, but it is supposed the four eldest were born in Agawam or Wareham.

Thomas and Isaac bought land in Sharon from John Gay, Feb. 20, 1743; and from William Goodrich Apr. 26, 1744. It appears that at some time he resided on the Oblong, across the line from Sharon in Dutchess Co., N. Y. No record of the death of himself or wives have been discovered. Perhaps in old age they removed from that vicinity.

The records of Pittsfield, Mass., show the following conveyances of land to Thomas Hamlin, who may have been the same who is the subject of this sketch, viz: Thomas Hamlin, Yeoman of Mt. Ephraim, (now Richmond, Mass.) deeded land to Samuel Brown, Jr. of Stockbridge, Mass., July 3, 1763.

And on July 11, 1763, he deeded 75 acres of land where he then lived, (Mt. Ephraim) to Timothy Woodbridge.

In 1765, Timothy Woodbridge, deeded to Thomas Hamlin, of Richmond, Mass., land bounded east and south by the road; west by land conveyed by Hamlin to Samuel Brown, Jr.; north by land of Joseph Cogswell, being lot 10, the same on which Hamlin then lived.

He was married to Ruth GIBBS on 6 Feb 1734 in Massachusetts, Rochester. Children were: Capt. Jabez HAMLIN, Amasa HAMLIN, Nathaniel HAMLIN, Zilpha HAMLIN, Mercy HAMLIN, Ruth HAMLIN, Thomas HAMLIN, John HAMLIN, Zilpha HAMLIN, Asa HAMLIN.

He was married to Mary CROWELL on 21 May 1755 in New York, Oblong, Duchess County. Children were: Mary HAMLIN, Jonah HAMLIN, Lewis HAMLIN.

Thomas HAMLIN⁽²⁵⁸⁾ was born on 24 Jul 1747 in Connecticut, Sharon. He died about 1838 in New York, Owasco. The Conn. Records show that Thomas Hamlin was private in Capt. Roger's Co., of Cornwall, Ct., in Col. Fisher Gay's 2d Conn. Battalion, Wadsworth's Brigade, raised June 1776; he served at Brooklyn during the battle of Long Island; was in the retreat to New York; and from there; and in the general assembly at White Plains. He was prosecuted for neglect to march to assistance of the Continental army; showed good excuse and was discharged. After the war they removed to Glenville, N.Y., and resided there; cooper; in his later life he resided with his son Cook; but died at the home of his son Seth, perhaps at Owasco, N.Y., at the age of 91; she was a noted physician; studied medicine with her brother, and practiced many years in Glenville, where her skill is still remembered by old people; she d. before her husband, at the home of her son Caleb, J., at Glenville. Presby.; they were dismissed by letter from Sharon, no date; he was hard of hearing, and for that reason sat in the pulpit, that he might hear the sermon; some of their children were baptized in Sharon, 1789. Zaccheus HAMLIN⁽²⁵⁹⁾ was born on 17 Jun 1711 in Massachusetts, Barnstable, Barnstable County. b. Barnstable, Mass., June 17, 1711; m. there, June 29, 1736, Mary Lombard; res. at Barnstable. In 1846, Calvin Hamlin, a great grandson, of China, Maine, wrote; my great grandfather was named Zacceus Hamlin, my grandfather and father were both named Timothy; my great grandfather and his two sons, (probably Solomon and Josiah,) were lost at sea about 1770. Mr. Hamblin Dickey, another descendant, of Monroe, Maine, wrote about the same time to the same effect; also, that the children of Zacceus were b. in Barnstable; and that Joanna and Sarah never m. No record of this family found on Barnstable town records. Parents: Jonathon HAMLIN and Esther HAMBLIN.
