Elder Henry Cobb,1 the immigrant, was at Plymouth Mass., 1632; Scituate, 1633; Barnstable, 1639. His dwelling in Scituate was built before Sept. 1634, and sold to Henry Rowley; and he built on his lot in Kent street; he was one of the "Kent men"; and owned 80 acres on North river; afterwards the farm of Ephraim Kempton; then of John James; Nov. 23, 1634, he and others, members of the church at Plymouth, "were dismissed from their membership in case they joined in a body att Scituate." Jan. 8, 1635, Mr. Lothrope made an entry in his church records: "Wee had a day of humiliation and then att night joined in Covenant together, so many of us as had beene in Covenant before, towitt: Mr. Gilson and wife, Goodman Anniball and his wife, Goodman Rowley and his wife, Goodman Cob and his wife, Goodman Turner, Edward Foster, myselfe, Goodman Foxwell, and Samuel House." Goodman Cobb was a leading and influential member of the church; and for forty four years was either the senior deacon or a ruling elder. It appears that he was a member of Mr. Lothrop's church in London; separating from the established church and joining the puritans. He was persecuted and came to this country to enjoy religious liberty and freedom of conscience; was one of the leaders in the removal from Scituate to Barnstable; was a town officer; member of the most important committees; and deputy 1644-52; had a good estate; m. 1st 1631, Patience, dau of Dea. James Hurst of Plymouth; who was buried May 4, 1648; m. 2d. by Mr. Prence, Dec. 12, 1649, Sarah, dau. of Samuel Hinckley; and sister of Gov. Hinckley of Barnstable. He d. Barnstable, 1679; will Apr. 4, 1678; proved June 3, 1679.
