The Myth-Weaver 'Be Nice' Law
The Myth-Weavers' Code, as described in the rules, lays out the principles that guide member conduct on this website. Because principles are sometimes not concrete enough to explicitly cover every situation, here is a list of "Laws of the Land" for ease of reference.

When the rules refer to disallowing something, it means disallowing posting about, posting links to, or otherwise connecting to the disallowed subject matter. Personal messages, posts, and other forms of content/expression on this site are all subject to these rules.

Abuse of other members will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

No Flaming: Insulting, threatening, harrassing, or hacking other community members is Flaming. This includes all public and private areas (forums, reputation comments, shoutbox, and private messages), where one or more of the following are displayed:
• Name Calling:
• Any term, minor to major, which refers derogatively to another member.
• Harsh Langage & Demoralizing/Undermining:
• These two usually go hand in hand, but any instance of either/or is not tolerated. There is a proper way to criticize and an improper way. Discrediting a member, with or without the use of harsh language, is Wrong.
• Threatening:
• Self explanatory. You may not threaten other community members, period.
• Hacking:
• Also self explanatory. Hacking into another member's account is illegal. Anyone who does so will be banned and reported.
No Trolling: This is the act of posting comments totentionally instigate negative reactions. Our rule is quite simple: Don't Do It.

No Bigotry: We respect your right to hold racist, sexist, and otherwise extremely offensive opinions. We also hold our right to disallow expressing these opinions on our board. There are several places on the net that you can go to where it is acceptable to publicly practice these types of beliefs. Myth-Weavers is an open, friendly community and thus is not one of them.

No Spamming: As a general rule, try to keep your posts helpful and related to the topic of the thread you are posting in. If you are greeting new members, make sure there is a greeting or helpful information/answer in your post. If you are replying to a game ad, include an intent to apply, a question, or a comment on the game ad. We understand the fun of hyper-posting and witicism, but there is a point where too much of this crosses onver the inconsideration line. Please keep non-topic related posts to a minimum and be considerate enough not to hijack another member's thread.

No Vigilante Moderation: While veteran members are encouraged to give helpful advice to less-experienced members regarding the rules and resources here, don't let that advice become admonishments. The moderation staff can handle rules-issues that come up, so if you have a problem with another user, alert the staff, don't take matters into your own hand by being mean to others. See also: No Flaming Newbies.

No "Mea Culpa" Offenses: A "Mea Culpa" offense is where a user intentionally breaks a rule and tries to get out of taking responsibility by acknowledging that (or "pre-apologizing" for) they're breaking the rules. Such apologies are fundamentally insincere.
Example 1: "I know I shouldn't be harsh and all, but So-and-So is dumber than kobold toenail clippings."
Example 2: "The filter and the rules here mean that I can't tell him exactly where to stick that thing up his other thing.
As the second example shows, indirectly or implicitly being mean is just as bad as directly being mean. Neither are allowed on Myth-Weavers.

No Being Mean to the Staff: The administrators and moderators are here to make the site run smoothly by providing technical support, making certain that people are aware of and follow the rules, and by continually working in the background to improve the Myth-Weavers community. If you disagree with the rules or with the enforcement of the rules, be mature about it. Discuss things nicely with the staff involved, don't take it personally, and remember that we're all ultimately on the same side here.

Justifiable Breaking of Laws: There is no such thing. At no time is it acceptable to be rude, inconsiderate, or mean, even if you believe your reasons are justifed. If you find yourself under attack, please find a mod, which are bolded in distinctive blue at the bottom of the main screen. If you must defend yourself, and we do understand that sometimes it might be necessary, please do so in an anti-inflammatory manner. Resorting to the same bad/rude behavior which has prompted your defensiveness only intensifies the situation for all parties involved, and that includes us. Generally, any occasion you feel provoked to respond defensively and/or negatively, we request that you locate or PM a mod. If you must post a public response, please adhere to the rules written above.

Disciplinary Action: Insulting other members is a 3 point infraction rule. If you receive 12 infraction points, you then become (temporarily?) banned. This ban lasts for 3 days. The second ban becomes permanent. Infractions, other than serious rule infringements, drop from your total in ten days. This does not mean that you can break our rules every ten days and get away with it, or that you aren't susceptible to firmer infraction/reproachment if necessary.
Policy Enforcement: Myth-Weavers site staff reserves the right to edit, delete, or undelete any message for any reason with or without notification to the poster. Also reserved is the right to restrict individuals from site membership or service.

In other words -- If you can't follow the policies of the site and be nice to each other, the staff can and will kick you out.
