When I woke up the next afternoon, I found Suzy asleep near the toilet bowl again. She was so pale that I could see the veins in her face. Her lips were almost the same color as her skin, a frightening shade of blue. She was trembling like a leaf. I prepared a warm bath for her and helped her in the tub. She was moaning some incoherent things as I held her head. When we were finish, I looked at the clock on the counter and realized that it was almost 5 pm and the others would be at my apartment very soon. I put Suzy in my guestroom bed and closed the door behind me. I put a boiler next to the bed and a glass of water on the bedside table.
I jumped in a warm shower to relax myself. The water was running down my hair and my back as I washed my body. Suddenly I heard the door open and could hear Suzy rushing to the toilet, throwing up one more time.
She whispered a �sorry� to me and closed the door. I closed my eyes and let my body slide on the cold wall until I was sitting in my shower. I pulled my legs to my body and wrapped my tiny arms around them, resting my forehead on my forearms and cried. I didn�t know for how long but when I came out it was 6:15 pm.
I went in my bedroom and opened my closet. I took out a pair of jogging pants and a blue cami. I put my hair up into a ponytail and put on some mascara and gloss. I decided to do a chocolate fondue with the coffee. I was getting busy with the coffee and the fondue when I heard the bell rang. I ran to the door and opened it.
�Hey Josh you�re...� I almost shocked when I saw none other than Hayden Christensen standing right in front of me.
�Hey.� He said shyly.
�Hey.� I managed to say still in shock. �What are you doing here?�
�Well Jamie told me that she was coming here and asked me if I want to come too. She's still outside with Joey, trying to find a place to park. She wanted me to come tell you that we were here.� He told me as he passed his hand through his blond Mohawk.
�Oh well�don�t stand there. Come on in!� I stepped back, allowing him room to enter.
He smiled at me and stepped in. I took his jacket and put it on my bed. When I came back, he was looking at the pictures in my living room. I reached his side and smiled when I noticed which one he was looking at it. It was a picture of me and my dad. We were at my grandmother�s home for the holidays. We were all smiling and happy, cheering with our glasses of wine. It�s so far from now� I thought.
�Nice place.� His voice brought me back to reality as I looked up at him.
I already knew it but then again I had to admit to myself, he was absolutely gorgeous. He had the smile of a little shy boy who didn�t really know what to do or say. But when I looked at his eyes, it was a pure man�s glance, confident and intimidating. It was a strange but beautiful mix. The doorbell rang again and I jogged over to open it.
�Hey I hope that you don�t mind that I brought them along?� Jamie asked shyly, pointing at Hayden and her boyfriend.
�Not at all.� I replied warmly.
Josh arrived a few minutes later and we all sat at my table. I prepared the coffee and put the fondue bowl on the table. We were talking about nothing and everything when Josh got the attention.
�Hey guys, next Saturday we could do a little barbecue with beers and sweet bikini or the ladies.� He joked as we all giggled.
�That sounds like fun,� Jamie said as she looked at her boyfriend.
�Yeah. Why not? We�ll be there,� he said as Jamie clapped her hands happily. �Wanna come bro?� he asked to Hayden who was sitting next to me.
�Yeah sure,� Hayden replied.
�Are you working right now?� I asked.
He leaned back in his chair and looked at me with that same boyish smile. �Not for the next 3 months,� he replied.
I was about to reply when I could hear Suzy calling my name weakly from the guestroom. I excused myself and went to her room. I sat on the edge of the bed. She was still weak and could barely speak.
�I don�t know if �I�ll be ok�tonight,� she managed to say.
�I don�t know if someone can take your shift.� As I saw her shake her head, I knew that if she didn�t go to work, Barry would fire her. �Suzy come on, you have to stop this shit--�
She cut me off. �--I know M. But you know that I can�t get fired. I need this job. You know that.� Suzy said. I bit my lower lip and nodded before I walked out of the guestroom, hearing the �pop� of the cap of her bottle of pills.
I sat back down next to Hayden. Jamie, Josh and Joey were in a deep conversation about something that I don�t remember, Hayden and I were talking to each other. I noticed that he was a natural guy with good values. He was funny and made me laugh a lot during our conversation.
Suzy joined us a moment after. I could see that she seemed to feel better but deep down I knew that she wasn�t feeling good at all-- the pills were doing their job.
Around 10pm, Suzy went for a shower as I began to clean up. I told the guys that we had to get ready to go to work at midnight. As they were heading towards the main door, I felt a hand on my lower back as I was washing the cup. I turned my head to fall into those blue eyes again.
�It was nice tonight, Michelle,� Hayden smiled at me.
�It was cool that you came....and call me M,� I simply replied.
�I don�t know if this is too fast�� He laughed lightly. �....but can I get your phone number?�
I could see a hint of panic pass in his eyes as he noticed my shocked look. �Well�It�s just because�you seem to be a really nice girl�and�we had good time tonight�.and�uhm�.� He tried to find his words nervously.
I burst out laughing as I watched his face change from nervous to confused. I put my hand on his shoulder and gave him two kisses on the cheeks. Then, I grabbed his cell phone and put my phone number in it.
�You are funny, all confident one second and so nervous the next,� I said to him.
When they were all gone, I went in my room to grab my things and we caught a cab. We arrived at the bar and hurried to get ready in time. As I was fixing my makeup, Barry found me and told me that there was a special customer in the bar tonight who wanted me to do a private dance.
A moment later, I found myself in front of the black curtain, waiting for the customer. It was a big old man in a tuxedo. I bit my tongue to avoid sticking it out as I let him enter the little room first. Before I could enter too, Barry grabbed my arm and whispered in my ear. �Be a good girl, do you�re job and I�m gonna give you the promotion you�ve been waiting for a long time.� Then he let me go.
As the slow rhythm began to fill the room, I rocked my body and swayed my hips to the beat. My arms went over my head as I passed my hands through my hair seductively.
I wasn�t feeling good with this old man looking at me like I was a piece of meat. I closed my eyes and felt my body relax as the memory of my night with my friends came in my head. Jamie and Joey giggling and kissing�Josh joking around�.Hayden smiling�.
