Crossing the Mind

"How long is left?"

Fade In

A narrator speaks into a black screen.

Narrator:

I was reading a magazine a couple weeks ago and you'll never guess what it said. "TNT Wrestling needs a hero. Long has the company suffered of pointless rants by people who are in roles they don't deserve, young wrestlers thrust into Main Event status because of the shortcomings of the people in the roles that don't deserve them, and of the lack of big name wrestlers laying the bricks for a better future. They need a hero, THE hero. Unfortunately, he ceases to exist these days."

Well, what do you know? Sounds like someone a bit tired of a Jimmy Vetalo and Rollin' Thunder rant, a bit leery of seeing such people as Reed Harrington and Anubis getting Main Events, not to mention, at the same time, and a man who wants nothing more than to see Jonny Fly back. TNT's hero, the man who's led the company through the hard times, and the man who's put himself on the line for the entertainment of the TNT faithful.

Must I tell you though..

That man who wrote the article in the magazine, has it all wrong.

That's right.

Sure, the High Rollers rant. Sure, they are two of the most annoying individuals most of us have ever listened to. Sure, they think because they have won World titles that they can put anyone they dare dream to down, never mind how watered down that Titles were, and the level of competition they went through to win, and retain them. They try to comment on people's creativity in promo's, yet, what do you always see in any High Promo? Vetalo and Thunder talking on their cell phones about a bunch of random crap that means absolutely nothing to the common viewer.

Um, hello, could we change it up please? It got stale quickly fellas.

And sure, Reed, Anubis, Wilson, they were all pushed too hard, too quickly and have shown their inexperience in the big matches. Wilson lost the Eurasian Title shot to Prodigy, who's more seasoned, and Reed lost to Mills, who up until that time had a terrible record in Title matches. Anubis has yet to be in a huge match..that is..until this week where he'll look to break the mini-curse on the younger breed of wrestlers TNT President Kent Strong has hired.

But most importantly, he was wrong about Jonny Fly, who he was un mistakenly referring to in his last comments. Jonny Fly is no hero. No. Do we forget this easily about Fly's shady past? The shady past that caused him to leave the company for personal reason numerous times. That's not the mark of a hero, and Fly himself knows it. I don't mean to contradict some of the things he says, but if you beat at him hard enough, he'll tell ya. Let's not get too caught up in the "Jonny Fly-Rah, Rah, Rah!" crap. How many times must people be reminded that Fly has never been what you think he's been.

Fly is no hero.

He's more terrorist than hero. And that's been proved.

Nevertheless, rest assured, this man is also wrong about the need for a "hero." TNT doesn't need a hero. TNT needs a freakin' god, and they got one. Wanted or not, he's there. No hero is going to offset months of having to listen to the High Rollers fantasizing that their bigger than the company, a hero isn't going to get the real wrestlers, the wrestlers, the legends, that put this company on the map, back in action. Jonny Fly will do that. Just in name, Fly is hated by all opponents. Hell, the people that now team with him probably hate him, and once sure as hell did.

A wrestler like Edwards, Totopoulous, Shadow, who's already came back, and Segrada would probably like nothing more than to get a rematch against the one man that has their number. You will see people coming out of the bushes to take a shot at Fly, to the benifit of the company who will take pleasure in booking them. And with Fly..comes numbers..more importantly another hated man..Mark Vincent..and their creation..The Dynasty.. Undefeated in over a dozen contests in TNT Wrestling is Vincent, recognized as the greatest stable ever is The Dynasty, and known as being a magnet for World Titles and historical matches is Jonny Fly. Yea, things just got a lot more interesting.

Hey..

It's not what TNT wanted, it's what they needed.

And it returns in full tomorrow night.

Rest well.

Fade In

The scene fades in, in the Tokyo Dome in Japan. The arena is empty, but is already set up for TNT Mayhem tomorrow night. We zoom over to section 193 in the arena and spot a figure sitting in a seat. We walk over to the figure to find that it is Jonny Fly. He looks at the camera, and then motions for it to come closer. He begins to talk.

Jonny Fly:

You know, I thought Jonny Fly and the general public had gotten past some things. They hated me, they always ridiculed me, they always picked me to lose. All the way back to the UWA days. They would ridicule, I would win. Slowly as time went on, they began to understand what fuels me. Finally, there they were feeding off the energy of myself, and The Dynasty. They made me even look bigger than I really was at the time. They exploited me in a positive way..then.

Now, they have turned on me once again.

Fools.

Wrestling Insider says, and I quote; "Jonny Fly has done all he needs to do. Why doesn't he just retire? It's time to give someone else a chance to make a name for themselves, even a name bigger than Jonny Fly. TNT can't continue to rely on it's former stars, they have to make new ones for times to come. It's really hard to imagine Fly being around for the long haul anymore. There's just too many questions around him inside and outside the ring. He needs to go, if not for those reasons, then to preserve TNT's image as an upstanding corporation. With Fly on board, it'll always be a bit smudged"

Sports Illustrated ran a story on me. They said, and I quote again; "Jonny Fly for some time had carried professional wrestling. The young wrestlers wanted to be him, his peers wanted to be him, my kids wanted to be him. But now, nobody wants to be Jonny Fly. Fly is the most mythical of sports stars. He's so mercurial that he's beginning to lose his backing. Once he loses that, his storied career will close quickly. Hopefully by that time TNT won't be leaning on him to give them big matches."

And finally..

A former wrestler in TNT, one who I will leave nameless writes on his website; "Jonny Fly coming back is a joke. The Dynasty returning? We've seen it before, we'll probably see it again. It loses it's aurora a little bit more everytime it happens. Fly may still be a good wrestler, and his stable mates are always able to get the job done, but this just doesn't fit this time. TNT is now a younger company full of people who don't know Fly and Co. They'll have to prove themselves to those younger wrestlers to gain the respect that guys from my generation know to give them. I'm not sure if they can sell that. I think they're just going to be large targets, and younger guys love target practice."

That's right. I memorized everyone of those.

Let me add one myself. One of those reasons why Jonny Fly shouldn't even bother with his comeback. Why he should just pack it up right now.

The shelf life for a professional wrestler is, at the max, 4 to 5 years. In his first two years a wrestler will continually get better and peak in the ladder part of that second year. Then in his third year he'll begin to lose a bit of his luster, a bit of what made him so good the year before. By years 4 and 5 it's just a flat tailspin, large breaks from the company may occur, a former Main Eventer will become more a novelty than a wrestler and so on. If he makes it to a year six, he's just hanging on by a thread..remembering what used to been.

Look at Nic, Edwards, Gravedigger, Cosmos in UWA. Some guys don't even make it that far like Segrada, White Thunder, and Crak Cokain. Those guys didn't see a year three, yet, we seen White Thunder lose his last three matches in the company, Crak Cokain lose two in a row, then get sent to a treatment center for drugs and come back and never win a match before being fired. Segrada went 1 and 3 in his last four matches. Those guys came quick, and faded quicker. Guys like Nic, Edwards, and Cosmos, they're not competing in Main Events anymore. Even when they are active. They're novelties, links of the past, and that's no disrespect, all three of those men are outstanding wrestling. Hey, does anyone wish to count up the World Titles between those three?

What about after or during their 3rd years in pro wrestling? How many do they have? See my point, now?

But, Now let's go full circle. Let's got to me. Jonny Fly.

I'm in my third year of wrestling. I peaked more in the first part of my second year and spent the second part mostly out of wrestling. I have hopes of breaking the three year curse that seems to befall all good wrestlers. What makes me so optimistic? Take for example I'm only still 21 years of age, turning 22 in November. Most of those guys were in the ladder part of their twenties with more wear and tear. Also, simply, I've been more successful in a shorter amount of time than any of those previously named wrestlers. It'll take much more for me to fall off for them. Also count in the fact that I'm one of the best backed wrestlers around which will save me from some brutal beat downs. When your a target as enticing as me, as enticing as those men were, that's a big deal.

Those are just some of the things, however..

That cross the mind.

Questions about me have emerged, people no longer look at me as the wrestler who's beat every big name in TNT's history. I'm now the man who's been "rumored" to have been connected to all kinds of hellashish things. I've been told I killed some woman I supposebly impregnated, I've been called a serial killer with some connection to a place called Ridder's Cash Loans, I've been told I've faked my death. All of kinds of things that I assure you..I did not do.

Fly winks at the camera.

But people have turned on me. My people. People who cheer my name.

Fly leans back on the chair. He sighs, then continues.

Well..fuck them!

Can't you guys read the name tag? I was here when this company was skin and bones. I was the guy that told Marcel to book me every week and I'd a fucking circus act if that's what it took to get people interested in us. I was the one who took it upon myself to create heat with everyone so that every week there would be a big match happening. I made something out of nothing! Everyone now wants shit handed to them, and you wonder why I remain untouched in this company's history to this very day!

I'm supposed to step aside for people who are a by product of me? Hell no. Fuck that. Wilson, Reed, and Anubis are going to have to prove they got something on me. Other that, I'll continue to cast a cloud over this place that won't allow them to ever reach where I'm at right now. There will be no stepping aside. I don't have to prove myself to you. You have to prove yourself to me, it's a simple as that, and it aint gonna change. I am this business. It runs on my time, by clock. If you don't like that, there is a door, and as has been proved, we only need me.

Jonny Fly.

The Kid Wonder.

The International Icon

The Face of TNT Wrestling

The pillar the company was built on.

The 5 time World Champion.

With 42 Career Wins.

And 43 coming up fast to your left..

Cortez, don't mock me. It's pointless. You, are you. A waste of talent. Your the Eurasian Champion, your job in this company while holding that Title is to set up matches for guys like me in Main Events. Don't misplace your position in my company. You are fodder. While not a jobber, hardly a main player. Don't forget that, or it'll cost you big.

Your not funny.

Markus Jayson is funny. You are just ignorant. You use Sean Boyle to do your talking. Sean Boyle? TNT's whipping boy? A man who can't even seem to capture the US Title. A man who is laughed at behind the scenes for his ability to disappoint in big matches. You can hang out with him, and I'll take my backing. My legendary backing. If you do your history, you'll notice never once have I need their help in a big match. Don't try to summarize my ability to take down the greats as screw-jobs that I masterminded, and that The Dynasty acted on.

That's ignorance. Get a fucking clue before you try me.

What, am I not supposed to "talk that way to you?" Tell me why, a guy like me, needs to respect a guy like you? Your putting yourself down the Big Boss path early in your career. You think your something special and forget the many accomplishments of your opponent. You shrug them off, you forget their meaning, you don't factor them in, then three loses and whole mess of put downs later your tucking tail and running for UWA. To avoid my presence over everything you do, blocking you from ever becoming something in this company.

I'm capable of such things, Mr. Prodigy.

I'm capable of having your reign as Eurasian Champion last one week.

The owner of TNT is in my pocket, you forget. I employ him, to employ you.

You'll realize what my name means soon enough Cortez. I only beg that after I set you down with relative ease, that you don't do what the normal man does. Forget it ever happened, talk shit one week, and then next week act confused about how you lost so swiftly, with so much of ease. Sleep tonight holding your second rate title close. Tommorrow you realize why you've heard the things you've heard about me. And why unlike now..

They were right.

Your about to fall in line Cortez. Your about to see what so many before you have seen. I'm unbeatable. That's not cocky, that is common knowledge. A fact, proven, 42 times in two years. Your whole stay in TNT is going to be summarized in this match. Are you a main player, or just fodder?

Until I say differently, or you prove it against me, you will continue to remain an afterthought. A nobody, a simple refugee from a place where you weren't wanted. UWA.

Let that cross your mind.

For the rest of you, I'm going to use Cortez as my example. Wanted or not, this company needs me. They need my name, my ability to create the big matches, they need Jonny Fly. Enough of the sub par talent. The big boys are back. Prodigy is shit, who talks shit. So when we get into the ring, I'm going to make him shit..his pants. You don't give me motivation in a match that I'm already favored to win. That defeats the purpose of underdogs and upsets.

Now that bitch is done.

And all of you are going to watch, and learn..

Who Jonny Fly is.

Fly gets up from his seat. He stares into the camera one last time, straightens his jacket and walks away into the black.
