Kino: Kino is the main character in the novel The Pearl. In the story, he is a husband to Juana, and father of Coyotito. Kino is a Mexican-Indian who works as a pearl diver. After he finds the pearl he becomes increasingly violent and paranoid.�
Juana: Juana is the mother of Coyotito, and wife of Kino. Juana is the representation of women in the novel The Pearl. Although Kino�s treatment of her worsens, she continues to support him throughout the story. She is very devoted to maintaining her family. She even refuses to obey Kino when he suggests that they take separate paths to avoid the trackers.�
Coyotito: Coyotito is the son of Kino and Juana. In the beginning of the story Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion. When taken to the doctor, he refuses to treat the sting because the family doesn�t have any money. Juana ends up curing his sting with a poultice. Coyotito recieves treatment from the doctor only after Kino finds the pearl. At the end of the story, one of the trackers shoots Coyotito in the head, and he dies in a cave.�
The Doctor: The doctor is not of the same race as Kino and Juana. He refuses to treat Coyotito�s scorpion sting because Kino and Juana don�t have enough money to pay him. However, after Kino finds the pearl, the doctor treats and cures Coyotito. The doctor throughout the story is interested in stealing the pearl from Kino.�
Juan Tomas: Juan Tomas is Kino�s brother, and Apolonia�s husband. He warned Kino about the consequences he would face from finding the pearl. Juan Tomas allows Kino and Juana hide in the house when Kino murders a man in self-defense.�
Apolonia: Apolonia is the wife of Juan Tomas. She allows Kino and Juana to hide in her house after Kino murders a man in self-defense.
