Delta
The Delta was the first model Giorgietto Giugaro's studio Ital Design designed for Lancia in what was called La Linea Italia. Early scetches dating from end seventies have the contemporary Ital Design lines.

In 1980 the Delta was launched.
It was a four-door hatchback to fill in a very popular market segment where many manufacturers had a model running.

But Lancia touched a luxury note that no other constructor had done before in this segment. And the Giugiaro design took it apart from it's rivals. Very justly, it became car of the year.
At fist there was a 1300cc and a 1500cc model, but after a few years the great 1600 injection became the engine of choice.

Answering to the 80's GTi rage, Lancia topped the range of with the HF Turbo model. In stead of following the expanding engine trend, Lancia stuck to the 1600cc and adopted turbo technique to produce a car in the 130HP segment.

The HF 4WD was born as a result of Lancia's research into 4 wheel drive for a road car. But, as changing international rally regulations asked for a proper answer, this became Lancia's follow up for the S4 in the World Rally Championship. The Integrale became a most succesfull creation by Lancia not only as a rally winner, but also as a sportscar in the market . TopGear's Quentin Willson boldly stated it could - with the right road and the right driver- pull a Ferrari 355's panties down.

In the late 80's a redesign of the looks, like a vented hood, skirts and the Dedra's alloy wheels, was made. It kept the model up to date enough for another several succesful years.

Finally production ceased after 12 years in 1992. After that only the Integrale was still build untill 1994.
