The Sun Project M40 is perhaps the most sought-after airsoft sniper rifle ever produced. No longer in production (only about 1, 000 of them were ever made), this high-quality sniper rifle has been perhaps the most wanted airsoft sniper rifle, with prices ranging from $450-$600, and maybe even more. The USMC M40 is based on the Remington 700-40, and please, be aware: it is NOT the M40A1! This is a common misconception among airsofters, and, apparently, Sun Project themselves: the M40A1 is the USMC-designed sniper rifle that is based on the M700 action. It differs from the M40 in the way that it does not use a wooden stock and a light hunting barrel: it uses a synthetic McMillan stock and a heavy barrel. But for all purposes here, we'll call it an M40 or M40A1. For some odd reason, a lot of praise has been given to the airsoft M40 because of it's wooden stock: however, the wooden stock is not totally a good thing, for it warps in different weathers conditions after time. Nevertheless, the airsoft M40 is a fine piece of work. Weighing in at 3, 000g and a length of 1, 080mm, the M40 is a fine rifle. The Sun Project M40 is based on the APS-2 SV action, only with a stronger spring and an improved design. Stock, with it's fixed HOP-UP (.30g BBs are reccomended), the M40 fires 430 fps with a .20g BB, and 385 fps with a .25g BB. With this power, it is able to easily hit man-size targets much farther than 160 feet, with bullseye accuracy at 80 feet, according to Redwolf. With this kind of power, it can make a great sniper rifle, stock. But when upgraded, perhaps with the 200% spring upgrade kit, it fires 470 fps with a .20g, making it's range vastly superior. The high-precison metal barrel is anodized, making it almost scratch-free. The gun itself is all metal and wood, with the butt stock being a high-density rubber, but no scope mounts (I'm guessing you have to buy some real steel M700 scope mounts, or the ones Sun Project sells). It's make is high-quality, and feels very solid. The inscriptions on the M40 are fully authentic, with Remington marks and serial numbers abound. Although it can hold 26 rounds, about half of that number is reccomended, as feeding problems can occur. Although the M40 has some minor flaws, it is still a great gun, and if you get a good deal on it, GO FOR IT, or pass it on to someone else...
