Dear Editor,

 

It was with a great deal of dismay I read your front page headline of September 14 (Nuke Safety...)

 

It is this kind of sensationalism that is ruining what is our best tool to clean the air and stop global warming.

 

OPG tries to implement a better system to help the public and make figures more meaningful and when things don't go perfectly (administratively not safety wise)they get ridiculed for doing so.  

 

The story itself correctly points out that there is no danger to the public.  Radiation from nuclear plants accounts for less than one tenth of one percent of the average Canadian's yearly dose of radiation.  Most of our dose comes from natural sources to which we are exposed everyday of our lives.

 

Here's a solid number for you: 6 million tonnes.  That's how much Carbon Dioxide and air pollution nuclear power avoids in Canada every single month.  According to some studies 15-90 deaths are thus avoided. Why don't you report on that?
