| During WWII and the depression, while my grandfather worked as a saucier at the largest hotel in Cardiff, my grand- mother, Rose Veillard, took in laundry and sewed to help provide for their eight children - two boys and six girls. Two of their daughters became nannies, three (including my mother) became nurses, and all of the girls learned to be accomplished cooks and seamstresses. My mother, following the family tradition, made a point of passing along everything she had been taughted to me and my two sisters. In a family populated with so many women steeped in domestic and care positions, it's no wonder that the next generation should open a housekeeping company. These dedicated and industrious women are the influence which has made CCHS a reality. |
