This column will keep the community informed about the activities of the entire Clayton Band Program, grades five through twelve, and will from time to time showcase certain individuals and groups within that program.

May 26th Union County Leader
Thank You:
As band director of the Clayton schools, I would like to personally and publicly thank the townspeople of Clayton and the surrounding area for their turnout in support of the annual Spring Fine Arts Festival, involving the bands and the art department.

The May 17th concert of the fifth, sixth, and seventh grade bands was well supported by parents and family members, as always. Turnout for the May 18th CHS Wind Ensemble concert was, however, simply phenomenal. There were not a great many empty seats in the 618 seating capacity Wood Auditorium, and the enthusiastic audience made the evening "a night to remember" for both myself and the members of the performing group.

On behalf of the CHS Wind Ensemble, we extend our thanks and gratitude to the people of Clayton, and we hope to see you again at our Christmas Concert.
Thanks also to John and David McCord for managing the sound and lighting, and to Debbie McCord for painting the fantastic backdrop of the pirate ship.

......Thank you, Jerry Phillips

YELLOWJACKET MARCHING BAND: posted June 8th, 2004
Beginning this fall there will no longer be auxiliary marchers in the band. Auxiliary marchers are students who in the past have marched with the band without learning to play an instrument. All band members must play or seriously pursue becoming proficient on an instrument. Neither should students expect to be able to join band and beat on a drum. Drummers will be required  to study percussion seriously.
That said, I'm looking forward to having all the 2004 wind ensemble members return; and to welcoming any new members who wish to make a serious effort to be a full-fledged Yellowjacket Band Member.

DRUM MAJOR TRYOUTS: posted June 8th, 2004
Tryouts for Drum Major of the Yellowjacket Marching Band have not yet been scheduled; but all Juniors should notify Mr. Phillips of their intention to audition as soon as possible. Home: 374-2134    Band Hall: 374-2242
