Hello Friends of Marge,
Yes, we had freezing rain and snow yesterday evening but since the MargeMadness/Mania invitations have gone far and wide, "to the winds," Marge said, "The show must go on!"
We were amazed at the number of people who came out anyway. A tribute to Marge! Because of the weather and other commitments many of her good friends were unable to join us but all your good wishes were felt. Marge and RT know how special they are to us.
The food was fabulous! Laura Newby drove over from Lawrence to cook and many other people brought yummy dishes. Elise created her "Killer Punch." We were able to send fresh veggies and other dishes home with Marge and her family.
There were so many Silent Auction items we had to scramble to find space on the tables. Thank you Barbara and Russ from Aquarius for being a drop off point. People were so very generous with donations and bids. We also raffled off one of Marge's beautiful pieces. Sigh... it did not come home with me...
Monica tried unsuccessfully to raffle off all the children who quickly volunteered for this duty. For some reason their parents objected to this fundraising idea. ( Hmm...apparently not everyone understands the concept of making sacrifices for our friends) (big cheesy grin)
The guest of honor table was "tricked out" for Marge and RT. Animal prints, woo-hoo's and roses so people could sit with her and visit. She didn't have to move around any more than she wanted to.
Barbara Walley brought her camera and printer so everyone could have their picture taken with Marge. One for Marge and one for her guest. Marge really enjoyed this. Her "inner Diva" came out; she loves pictures!
Julia Lawrence and her husband drove from Council Bluffs, IA. in the storm just to spend a little time with Marge. Julia of course danced for her. RT got the drummers warmed up.
Marge's Crazy Hat contest was great fun! Priceless treasures (grin) were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize.
We had a guest book and new address book for everyone to write in. Marge loved this idea! Some friends seemed to be writting "Epic Adventures with Marge" in the book. Some of us shed a few tears (OK, it was me) but mostly from laughter. It really was a joyful celebration.
Rev. Jan from the church gave up her entire afternoon and evening to hang out with us. Before, during and long after the party. Many thanks to the Spirit of Hope Community for letting us use their wonderful space.
Nancy and Monica kept the walkways cleared, swept, mopped and stood on their heads and spinned! (another grin)
There is no way to thank everyone who worked so hard and joyfully to make MargeMania such a spectacular "warm/fuzzy" evening. You all know who you are. Perhaps we should call ourselves MargeAholics.
Peace, love and many blessings,
Elaine
