Clay Greenberg earned his masters degree in orchestral conducting at the Eastman School of Music, where he is currently Instructor of Musicology, teaching the Balinese gamelan ensembles, the Eastman Youth Gamelan, and an elective course on Indonesian Culture, Music, and Dance. He has studied and played Balinese gamelan for 10 years and has taught Balinese music for 7 years. He has studied in Bali and in the US with many of the top master musicians, including I Ketut Gede Asnawa, I Nyoman Windha, I Nyoman Suadin, Ni Ketut Suryatini, and I Wayan Suweca.
In his Western musical life, Clay is active as a conductor, percussionist, and singer. He was a founding member of the contemporary music ensemble OSSIA, and has performed throughout the United States and in Canada, Japan, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Korea, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Mexico. He has recorded for the Sony, Deutsche Gramophon, EMI, Phillips, Nonesuch and Cantaloupe record labels. |
