Rhett Sutter writes about
"IT'S NOT EASY BEING ME"

(Wilson/Paley)
From the Brian Wilson and Andy Paley sessions, 1992-95

"I Just Wasn't Made for these Times" for today.  Perfectly conjuring music to convey Brian's years of mental illness and sadness, this spooky ballad shoots to the heart.

Over a bed of harsichord, flutes, clarinets, drums, guitar, bass and wild percussion newar the end, a beaten Brian lets us kno how tough life is for him, and we get the point.  One can't listen and not feel for our poor friend, knowing of his well-documented problems, and marvel at his wonderful production skills still completely intact (again, note percussion on end, and the time changes there too).

I can't get enough listens, and would not want any of Joe Thomas's fingerprints anywhere near it.  Perfection!  A must for all true BW fans.

Editor's notes:

Rhett Sutter has an interesting little web page up with some music he's composed at the mp3.com website.  He seems to be quite influenced by our dear Mr. Wilson, so go give him a listen.

Also, according to Joe Thomas, he and Brian re-recorded this song, along with three other Wilson/Paley tunes, for
Imagination.  They didn't end up on the record, but JT seems to think they will probably appear on a followup.

If you want to hear what the song sounds like, give it a listen here:
