Love Ya
(Wilson/Landy)

A short tune intended for
Sweet Insanity.  Nice horns, forceful singing, and a back-to-basics tune (based on "Heart on Soul").  Originally called "Sweetie" when Brian wrote it in the early 80s, and called that again when he re-cut it with his daughters in 96.

Not sophisticated, perhaps, but I doubt it was meant to be.  As an indication of a happy, rockin' spirit, it's fun.

Lyrics

Love ya, pretty baby I love ya
I can't get enough of ya
We're gonna fall in love

Love ya, the way you shake your hair, love it
The guys all stop and stare
Oh you're the answer to my prayers

Love ya, pretty baby I love ya
There's no one up above ya
Why don't we fall in love

Bridge:

Come on and try your love with me, don't you see
I'll, I'll turn you around, inside and out, upside and down
Yeah, just give me a chance

Love ya, don't ya know I just love ya
When you're in my arms know ya
You'll fall in love with me

Love ya, want to show you a fine time
Come to see you some sweet time
I wanna take you home

Bridge

Love ya, come on and live with me, will ya
I'm down on my knees for ya
Oh baby please please please

Where Has Love Been

(Wilson/Paley/Souther)
On Imagination, 1998

A too-short bit of romanticism, care of Brian (with help from Andy and J.D.).  The song seems to have originated during BW and Andy Paley's mid-90s collaborations.  No bootleg of their version is known to exist, so I wonder if the two ever recorded it beyond a very, very rough stage.

During the sesions for
Imagination, Giant Records president Irving Azoff put Brian in touch with J.D. Souther (who had written songs with the Eagles, the band Azoff managed in the 70s).  Souther wrote new lyrics--apparantly with Brian, since the press for the album talked about the two watching some baseball and working on the song.  I'd say that the verses are mainly Souther's interpretation of Brian's new life with his wife, and the brief chorus is from Brian (and perhaps Paley).

Musically the song is pleasant, with Joe Thomas chipping in some accordian.  According to Thomas, he and Brian called the tune "The South of France Song" for awhile because there were no lyrics.  Brian apparantly supervised the arrangment, since Thomas has spoken of Brian telling him different parts to play in laying down the instrumental track.

The feel is somewhat similar to the '97 Wilson/Tony Asher collaboration "Everything I Need," featured on
The Wilsons album. (A Carnie and Wendy solo with their dad chipping in on four tracks.)  Also, the shortest new song on Imagination, barely two minutes in length.

Lyrics

I've been places I can barely talk about
Sunny days that died away in tears
Tumbling like a leaf out on a sea of doubt
I've seen nights that seem to last for years

Bridge:

I know that even if I tried
I couldn't hide my love inside
It's plain to see
That I've been looking everywhere
But somehow no one seemed to care

Chorus:

Where has love been
Where has our love been
All my life

Now and then it seems as though you get it right
Some is never worse than none at all
Making love can always get you through the night
But true love's there to catch you when you fall

Bridge

Chorus

I'm in love and I know it was meant to be
Close your eyes and dream with me again
Dream again
(repeat)
Return to HOME.
