HEY WAYLON |
A Tribute To Waylon Jennings |
On June 15, 2005 a CD was released called HEY WAYLON. Waylon Jennings' brother, Tommy came to me almost two years ago and told me that he had 5 songs that he AND Waylon had recorded. Waylon is actually playing guitar on his own tribute album! Tommy put a band together and we recorded four more songs to finish the project. I was so excited to be asked to play electric guitar in the band.
This album is a walk through Waylon's life and career...the first song he ever learned as a young boy...the first song he ever recorded (Buddy Holly produced this song originally AND played guitar on the 45 I heard - we re-recorded it!)...the first song released to radio...etc |

Tommy and I have known each other for years, but I never realized what a talented storyteller he was. He loves to talk about growing up in Texas, Buddy Holly, experiences he had while he was playing bass for Waylon, his time in Europe and the two albums he released there and all those "outlaw" stories. My band loves it when Tommy comes in and sits in with us. He sounds a lot like his brother! When the band was rehearsing at The Stage on Broadway, the owner, Rubel Sanderson, was there doing some work. Rubel called me over and asked who the heck was on stage with the band trying to sound like Waylon. |

This tribute project means a lot to both Tommy and me... but this picture sums up the time we spend together. As you can see we really don't get along very well. In fact, I love listening to his stories so much it is actually amazing that we ever got anything done! |
