Worship on Sunday, July 7

Join us at 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. as we celebrate holy communion. Gary E. Mueller will use 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 as he preaches on the subject "We Are Family."

Join us at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary for Worship on the Cutting Edge, a contemporary praise service.

July is Choir Recruitment, Enjoyment and Welcome Month

Invite your friends to join the FUMC Music CREW for the 2002-2003 choir year. We're about to enter a new era in the life of our church. Like last year, we'll be concentrating on recruiting and welcoming new members to our CREW in July with special opportunities to sign up for one of our music groups for children, youth and adults.
Choir is the place to be in 02-03. Recruitment happens all through the month of July. Sign-up tables will be in the back of the sanctuary each Sunday. Enjoy a year-long musical celebration at First Church with events for the whole family. A welcome is waiting for all new members in each of our choirs!

Adult Grief Support Group will meet July 14.

A group is available for adults who have experienced any type of loss, including death of a loved one, divorce, or loss due to illness. Group leaders are church members Sandra Aikins, licensed professional counselor and co-founder of the Journey of Hope Grief Support Center, and Laura Jeffers, Journey of Hope group facilitator. The groups meets the second Sunday of each month at 5:00 PM. Groups meet ongoing throughout the year and welcome new members.

July is Food Pantry Month

Your donation helps the Plano Food Pantry supply 36 to 40 families each week and God's Food Pantry supply approximately 3,000 individuals each month. Protein items, such as peanut butter and canned meat and fish, are always a top priority. Brown grocery bags will be available to remind you and help make your donations easier. If you prefer to donate money, please designate your check for "Food Pantry." Thank you from the Missions Committee.

What exactly is Stephen Ministry?

Stephen Ministry is lay caring ministry. Stephen Ministers are not counselors or therapists; rather, they are caring Christian friends who can offer a listening ear to help others through the tough times in life. Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised in their ministry. If you are going through a tough time and could use a caring friend, or know someone else who could, call one of the Pastoral Staff or Joe or Billie Owens, Stephen Leaders (972.424.9726). Please do not report a friend's need without first asking his or her permission to do so.

Parents of Children from Birth to Four Years

A.P.P.L.E.S. (Adventurous Parents Providing Love, Encouragement and Support), our church's group for parents of preschool children, invites you to join them for an exciting time of fellowship, discussion and spiritual nurture. They meet twice a month:
Each first Tuesday for a 'play date' at Bob Woodruff Park from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and
Each third Tuesday in room 121 at the church from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Mission Possible! Youth in Mission

The senior high youth are looking for items to hand out to the children in Mexico. Do you have unopened fast-food toys lying around the house? Do you have any leftover t-shirts from the company picnic? If you have these items to donate, please drop them by the Youth Minister's office before July 12.

School Supply Project

You may place donations of supplies in the box located near the south office doors or make your check out to FUMC and mark it "school supplies." Supply lists are available at the display, but spiral notebooks and pocket folders with brads are a special need. If you could volunteer to assemble or deliver the supply bags, call Resurrection Lutheran at 972-867-0460 and leave a message for Darlene Hughes.

Gently Used School Supplies

Does your student have lots of gently used scissors, rulers, etc.? If so, Resurrection Lutheran Church has a place for these items. They are not used for the School Supply Project but are passed along to an agency which distributes them to students who have nothing else, so save the supplies that your child brought home the last day of school and drop them in the box near the office. Thanks for your help!

Project Transformation Snacks

We've had such good response from all church members for games and books for Project Transformation, and we thank you all so much! These will be so appreciated by the children in the program. Now, if we could come up with some nonperishable snacks as well - such as crackers (soda crackers, graham crackers, etc.), peanut butter, raisins, individual juices, trail mix, cookies. The children go through a lot of snacks during the six weeks. There will be a plastic container in the church office for the next few weeks if you have a donation.

Dinners for 8

If you enjoy entertaining in your home and want to enlarge your circle of friends in the church family, sign up now for the next round of Dinners for 8. Each dinner group consists of four couples who get together once a month for four months to enjoy dinner and socializing. Sign up by calling Bill or Wendy Hundley at 972-699-3554 or email [email protected]. Wendy's been having trouble with her email. If you've messaged her in the last couple of weeks and haven't received a reply, please email her again. Note to current Dinners for 8 participants: You must sign up again to be placed in a new dinner group.

Artists, photographers, writers, videographers, and all-around creative types:

The FUMC communications committee is building a network of creative and talented people willing to work on short-term projects. If you would like to help our church reach out, please call Robin Collett at 214-474-0172 or e-mail her at [email protected].

More than diapers and toys!

"The ministry of the nursery touches lives for eternity." The Nursery Committee is currently seeking a paid nursery worker who can work a few daytime hours during the week. Please give this opportunity some prayerful consideration and contact Liz Blizzard at 972-423-7121, 9# if interested. Smiles in the nursery are given away for free!

Prayer Team

You have the opportunity to submit prayer requests either during the offering (place cards in the offering plate) or in prayer request collection boxes (drop prayer requests in the boxes located outside the prayer room and on the information table outside the office). Look for the specially colored prayer request cards in the pews or next to the collection boxes. If you would like to volunteer to be a part of the prayer team, please call the church office.
