Battle Report
Game 4:  Group Game 1
Submitted by Clay Richmond with input from Alex Casillas
The Battle of Growler Mountain was a vicious and bloody battle on a scale that has not been seen in an age.  It all started when not long ago, an adventurer brought news from deep within the Nargiv Forest, an area rarely visited by any civilized race, that the ruins of an ancient race had been found.  The ruined city was evidently built around an active volcano; the volcano itself may well have been the reason that the city was destroyed.  The volcano was rumored to have within it an endless supply of Diamonds, a rumor that was proved false at a high cost.

Five different Kingdoms converged on the legendary mountain with expeditionary forces only to discover that they were not alone.  In addition the enemy forces from the other Kingdoms, vicious lava-like beasts that fearlessly threw themselves at any interloper inhabited the volcano.  Then another discovery was made, the ruins where not completely abandoned.  Strange creatures and nightmare monsters inhabited the ruins and often emerged from the ruins to attack the forces intent on taking the mountain.  If that was not enough to boggle the mind of any military commander, it was found that the race that once inhabited the city had left behind Traveling Portals that allowed instantaneous travel between different points in the city, essentially giving access from any part of the city to any other part of the city.

The battlefield quickly became a mass of confusion as the different forces began to engage each other and the indigenous creatures of the area.  The Blackblood Orc assault warriors took an early opportunity to surprise the Elves with a volley of arrows that slew three Elves before they knew they were under attack.  Elsewhere, a huge warband of Dwarven Warshields pulled a similar move and showered Firstborn Crossbowmen with a hail of arrows, killing several of them.  The second hail of arrows completely wiped out the Crossbowmen without them cause a single wound to the Dwarves.  The slaughter of Firstborn Crossbowmen was not even slowed when a large Cyclops Ogre reared above some ruins and began heaving boulders at the Dwarves.  One Dwarf was smashed to putty before the creature could be dispatched by a nearby Talon Lord.

Swamp Goblins seemed to have their hands full as they where charged by a large number of Growlers from the volcano, but where able to fight their way through them with few losses.  But then a huge Graveyard Dragon manifested itself in a tower between the Swamp Goblin force and the Blackblood force.  Needless to say, the Swamp Goblin Shaman was well pleased when he saw the Dragon descend on the Blackblood and destroyed most of warband of Crimson Blade Goblins with a cloud of Putrid Gas.  The Shamans glee was cut short though when a Death Seeker troll charged and destroyed the Monster with seemingly little effort.

The Crystal Lotus Elves, recovering from their blow from the Blackblood, returned fire from their expert archers.  Three Orc assault warriors fell, in the first volley, and two in the second.  Meanwhile, the Lotus-eater successfully Sky Charioted his axemen behind a charging group of growlers.  The Axemen quickly obliterated the lava creatures, and full of battle lust charged through a portal attempting to flank the Blackblood.  Unfortunately, they ran head long into a large Warband of Orc swordsman and quickly became enmeshed in a crowed struggle.  The Swamp Goblin Shaman, seeing an opportunity to kill a large number of enemy troops, tossed a Poison Yukka into the middle of the throng and most of those that had not already killed each other fell to the poison yukka.

The Firstborn not being skewered by Dwarven crossbow bolts were quickly becoming pressed by Monsters from two different sides.  Growlers from the Volcano came charging into their ranks covered by a Growler mamma heaving boulders with unnatural accuracy.  Even with lava flowing around her, the Growler mamma squashed a Repulsar Knight Marksman and at least one Maceman knight.  The Repulsar Knight, thrown off guard trying to avoid a flow of Lava at his feet, was drug down by Onehorns and Growler pups.   Then, while the Firstborn where reeling from the Growler attack from the volcano, the ruins to the east of the Firstborn spewed fourth a trio of Goblin Imps.  These little flying balls of muscle, teeth and claws quickly killed any remaining Firstborn crossbowmen and even the Firstborn Judge.  The Firstborn army crumbled.  One warband of Swordsmen Knights where on the Volcano, and all other remaining Firstborn troops charged a Dwarven Talon Lord trying to sneak up on them.  Unfortunately for the Firstborn, the remaining Growler Pups followed them right into the fray.  When it was done, only two of the Growler pups covered in both Dwarven and Firstborn blood, emerged.

The Swamp Goblins started making a determined advance towards the Volcano.  The Growlers before them were dispatched easily and then they engaged a few Orcs and Firstborn.  In an attempt to ambush a Crystal Lotus Flying Dragon Bane from behind, a Warband of Swamp goblin blowpipers jumped into a portal hoping to arrive behind the Elven beast.  But the ancient magic failed them and through a cruel twist of fate the Goblins suddenly found themselves in the heart of giant poison yuka created by their own Shaman!  The potent poison killed over half the warband outright, and only a single Goblin was able to eventually escape the poison and the nearby angry Blackblood alive! The responsible Shaman watched with a scowl on his face and finally turned away muttering  idiots!

Once a Crystal Lotus Flying Dragon Bane dove into the Action occurring near the peak of the Volcano slaying several Jade Axemen.  A horde of Goblin Mantis Warriors charged the Dragon seriously wounding it, but the goblins where surprised when a Firstborn Swordsman Knight stepped up and delivered the deathblow.  Not being at all thankful for the assistance, the Goblins turned their wrath on the Knight quickly dismembering him.   At the base of the mountain, a Swamp fiend that had assisted in killing the larger Growlers charged a Dwarven Flamethrower.  The Flamethrower lit the Swamp Fiend up with flame but succeeded only in burning off the remaining goblins riding it before being torn apart by the enraged Fiend.  The Shaman, continuing to use his poison lotus to good effect, caused the death of several more Dwarves, which were starting to stagger from the loss of their Talon lord, Flamethrower, and half their Warshields.

The Crystal Lotus Elves watched gleefully as the Blackblood trying to flank them came across a band of Zombies emerging from the ruins.  The Zombies were actually able to kill off most of a warband of Ogres before the Elves charged in and finished off both the Zombies and the Ogres.   A Warkiller went head to head with a mounted Kutara and was about to dispatch it when a charging Troll hit it from the side and quickly disemboweled it.  Enraged, the Lotus-eater used his Sky Chariot once again and surrounded the Blackblood Troll, Kutara, and Alchemist with angry Spearmen.  All three lived only long enough to see their doom.  With this blow, the Blackblood where effectively destroyed.  The Crystal Lotus Elves then sent Swordsmen and a Crystal Knight through a portal to secure the abandoned Firstborn home base foiling the Dwarven designs on it.  This left the elves in control of the Firstborn and Blackblood home bases as well as their own.

The Dwarves seeing their danger of being totally obliterated retreated from the volcano to insure that they would at least hold their home base.  The battle for the Volcano itself was mostly between Firstborn Swordsmen and Goblin Mantis Warriors when the scales where finally tipped towards the Goblins with the arrival of a Jade Elf Flying Dragonbane.  The Swamp Goblins ended up securing the Volcano as well as their home base.  The battle, which would become known as the Battle of Growler Mountain, was over with almost 4000 dead and dying creatures of every description strewn across the battlefield.
