by Mr. Jerry de Witt
of Perth, Australia

St. John's Fort

The Portuguese built a chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist on this hill which bears the same name about 3 km from the town of Malacca. The fort was constructed by the Dutch during the third quarter of the 18th century.

Church of St. Francis

The Catholic Church dedicated to St. Francis Xavier, the Apostle of the East, was built by a French missionary, Father Fabre in 1849. The twin towered Church is of French Neo-Gothic architecture and stands on the original site of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary erected by Gaspar da Cruz in 1553.
