The single word that comes closest to describing my religious belief is Deism. The deism of Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson, and I believe, the founding religious principle of the United States. I am convinced that the absolute worst religious idea in the mind of man is that you have to believe a certain way in order to be "saved" or "go to heaven" or to find favor with god. This odious principle has been the root cause of most of the pain and suffering that the world has known.
I am a 63 year-old retiree living on Florida's Treasure Coast. I fulfilled a lifelong dream and bought a sea going sailboat in 2000 and have been fixing it up to suit my tastes. My interests include golf, bicycling, duplicate bridge, ham radio, music, literature and of course, sailing.
The Boat . . .
is a 34 foot catamaran which I have named Future Perfect. I saw another boat here named "Past Tense" and liked it. I didn't want to use the same name but decided to use another verb tense. So Future Perfect it was. Since buying the boat, I have provide it with new sails, cordage and interior furnishings.
My Work . . .
has mostly been in the field of satellite communications, although, in the past I have also worked in radio and TV broadcasting. I am an engineer. My work has been very rewarding to me, having taken me to virtually every part of the world. I feel very fortunate in having met so many wonderful people and having experienced so many varied cultures all over the globe.
Politically, you will find me dedidedly on the left of the political spectrum. That is, Liberal. Liberalism to me means personal freedom. I am against the war on drugs, favor smaller government, less personal regulation but perhaps more corporate regulation, and lower taxes (after the public debt is repaid). I favor getting the church out of government and am pro-choice, and anti-creationist. I enjoy debating religion and politics so feel free to express your views. I promise a response to any civil submissionn.
