Alone

Unlike other kids she used to know
She had not mother's love to help her grow.
She put up a wall to hide her pain
Like an umbrella against the rain.
As she got older she wondered why
The best things of life just passed her by.
Though an adult, her mother thought her a child
The anger and depression in her running wild.
Yet no feelings was she able to share
The fear inside her said "Don’t you dare."
Then she learned how to tear down the wall
And let go of the hurt that was keeping her small.
Focusing and directing her inner self
Instead of locking it away up on a shelf.
Slowly ever slowly she began to trust
For her sanity she knew she must.
Her wall transformed into a guard
Unyielding yet flexible, but never hard.
Taming and teaching the child within
Gave her the strength and courage to win.
