Clastene History

Home Server Wiki Dynmap

Hello, WindowsXPuser (also known as Windows_XP_User) here. I'm the founder and owner of Clastene. When I created Clastene on March 8, 2020 (pre- pandemic!) I never expected anything to come of it. I made it for fun and because I thought it'd be cool to have my own Minecraft server. SoreCapybara227 helped me figure out IPs and was the second player (after me) to join my first Minecraft server on 1.15.2. For a while it was a private server where Sore and I played, but eventually I decided to open it up for advertising. A post was made on r/mcservers where I advertised the server. At this time the server was on Alpha 1.2.6 with the hMod plugin API. It worked fine, but the server was unstable (that's what you get for using 10 year old Alpha quality software) and world corruptions were frequent. After a few hours, we got our first player! His name was kaaxam and a few hours after he joined I gave him op because he joined. Yup, that's all it took to get Admin back then. We went through several worlds, the first of which I still remember well. It had large mountains and a bunch of hills and spawn was near an ocean. kaaxam built a house in between two hills with a mountain directly behind it, I dug a hole in the ground, and SoreCapybara227 kept dying. Unfortunately, this world was a casualty to the unstable ways of Alpha MC and has been lost. Hey, that reminds me! Clastene used to be named AlphaMC! That name lasted about a month, from March 23, 2020 to April 22, 2020. Prior to us being called AlphaMC (you may recall that the server started on March 8 but the AlphaMC name started March 23) we were called NostalgiaMC. While I was combing through the Internet looking for hMod plugins I found that were were unwillingly sharing our name with a ~5 year old Minecraft Beta server. We changed our name to AlphaMC to reflect our old version. On April 22, 2020, the server updated to Minecraft 1.15.2 due to "hardware limitations". I have absolutely no recollection of what those hardware limitations were, but I know they were a real issue. With this change to 1.15.2 the server name got updated too; it was now called Clastene. Up until this point Clastene had only ever had 3 unique players join the server. That's when I ramped up advertising. We were back on Alpha 1.2.6 within a week of going to r1.15.2 and very quickly had built outselves a nice world. SoreCapybara227 and kaaxam had a competition to see who could build a tower to the world height limit. If I recall correctly, Sore technically got there first, but that was with an incomplete build. That world started corrupting for no clear reason so we started a new world. This was the 5th world and the last major Alpha 1.2.6 world we had. This one had a railroad, many warps, towns, and we actually got a few players (they were all griefers). After even more corruptions, this world shit down too. This started a roughly 9 month absence of the server regularly being up. Occasionally I'd start the server up again on beta 1.7.3 or on release 1.7.10 or 1.16.2, but it never lasted more than a couple of days. A couple weeks ago I started the server up again. I figured the server was basically a private server for Sore, kaxaam, and me at that point so I was considering kicking all the other members of the Discord server and making the server private, but then nickjon11 said we'd have a Minecraft gamenight in the Windows XP Discord server. I waited a few days to see if anyone was going to host the server, but when nobody was hosting it and things were going nowhere I decided to offer up Clastene. People joined, we had fun, and we built up a world. This was on release 1.2.5 for people in the future. After a few days we voted to update to 1.4.7, and then again we voted to update to 1.8.9 and reset the world while copying bases over.
