My Life Today

marital status: married 8 years

children: none; have three very spoiled cats

area I live in: Meridian, ID, 10 miles west of Boise, ID

work: I'm a hydrogeologist, work for Idaho Rural Water Association in the capacity of a Wellhead/Ground Water Protection Specialist. Husband is an Environmental Geologist, works for a company that installed fuel depots and gas stations throughout the southwest region of Idaho; he heads the Environmental Division.

hobbies: We both love to fish, camp and backpack; we also love to go 4-wheeling, and snowmobileing. We have a large veg garden that we are constantly working in, and I can't wait for the first frost, so I can get some rest.

travel: We both love to travel, and have managed to take some great trips since being married; we have gone to Alaska, Mexico (during Spring break, what a freak show that was), and spent 3 weeks in China.

pets: Have 3 cats: Shadow (13yrs), diabetic, is a challenge keeping her well; Banzi (2yrs), grey tiger with 7 toes on her front paws, 6 on her back; she is quite a hunter and brings mice to me often; Buster (6mos), orange Manx, love to give the girls hell.

A Short History of the last 30 Years

Married Cameron McVean, class sweetheart; marriage lasted 6 years, ended in divorce; we were both too young to do this sort of thing. After the divorce, I moved down to the central coast of CA and attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, got a BS in Agriculture.

Moved to Boise for a while after that, then moved down to San Diego area, where I met my second husband, Ray Willing. We met in a coffee bar on the beach. He was getting ready to retire from the USN after 20 years of service. After months of seeing each other, he proposed, I accepted, and we got married on the beach at the coffee shop where we met. We sold our belongings, bought a sailboat, and lived in a marina in San Francisco. Less than a year later, he became very ill. It was diagnosed as lung cancer; he lived for 4 more months. We left the boat in the city, moved up to Boise so I could be close to my family for the support, and when he died, I just decided never to go back. Sold the boat, paid off the debts, and settled here.

Went back to school, got a BS in Geology, emphasis in Hydrogeology. Met my current husband, Dana (#3), in a field geology class. When I first saw him, I wouldn't have touched him with a 10 foot pole! He just wasn't GQ enough for me, but he was persistent, I'll grant you that!! Dated 3 years, got married, have been happy ever since. He's a wonderful man, very thoughtful, is wise with our finances, and is fun to be around. It's gotta be love when two geologists decide it's time to combine their rock collection!

Future Plans

We have just purchased 65 acres of farm land in Notus, ID, about 35 miles west of were we are living now. I was hoping to retire eventually, and travel some and fish a lot, but I guess that won't happen for a while. We have leased out the land to my husband's brother and sister-in-law, so they can run their cattle on it. It will bring in a small amount of cash over the year. I have learned to spin wool, so maybe I can have a Llama or Alpaca, and spin some things. We'll build a house out there eventually; we built the home we are currently living in, and the stress factor was unreal; I don't really look forward to building another one.

What I've Learned the last 30 years

I have learned that life never takes you where you think it will. The plans I had as a young woman were very short-sited; the best thing is to just look forward to the sunrise, enjoy the day that God has given you. I have also learned that eveyone in my life has been put there for a reason, and that people we meet and know are on loan; they come into one's life for a reason, and after the lesson has hopefully been learned, they are taken to be with someone else.

Message to My Classmates

I hope that life is treating you well, that your families are healthy, happy, and that all your dreams come true.
