NEW ASPC RULE CHANGES
Here's a report from the Convention pertaining to Classic/Foundation Classic Shetlands taken from the December issue of the Journal.
1. New over/under height requirements: The Under Division will now begin at 42" rather than 43" as was in effect last year. Adjustments for younger ages will be announced at a later date, but they will all be 1" shorter than the familiar height requirements of the Modern Shetlands.
2. A new "Foundation Classic" Division was created. To be eligible for this Division, the Foundation Classic cannot be over 42" mature height, with Junior Classics not going over 41". The Foundation Classic must have all Division "A" Shetland ancestry in the first 4 generations back in their pedigrees. Suggested classes are: Junior and Senior Stallion; Grand Champion & Reserve Grand Champion Stallion; Junior and Senior Mare; Grand Champion & Reserve Grand Champion Mare. Be sure to refer to the new ASPC 2000 rules for finalization on this new Division for Foundation Classics. (click on "Registry" for details)
3. Hall of Fame Points will be awarded in the new Foundation Classic Division.
4. An Equitation Division was added.
5. Evenly weighted shoes, even in the length of the branches to extend no further than the back of the hoof wall and not to extend past the bulb of the heel, are allowed for Classics and the new Foundation Classics. Shoes are optional.
6. In driving classes, a properly fitted cavesson is required.
7. A subcommittee was formed to study the feasibility of a Classic Breeders Sweepstakes.
