Installing a MOMO steering wheel on the classic SAAB 900
- by Shan

This article describes how I fitted a MOMO steering wheel on my classic SAAB 900. Read on and enjoy !

Tools used : 3 mm Allen Key, 22 mm socket with extension bar, thin flat screwdriver.

The standard steering wheel on my SAAB 900 :

The MOMO steering wheel :

The boss kit, as shown below. Incidently, it is also a MOMO part.

Start by removing the plastic centre cap with a thin flat screwdriver. Using a 22 mm socket and extension bar, loosen the centre nut. Prior to loosening, face the tool to the left as shown below and tap downwards. This way, the force is faced away from the windscreen in case the tool should slip.

Remove the 22 mm nut and washer and tap the steering wheel towards you until it comes off the centre shaft. Mount the MOMO bosskit onto the centre shaft, re-using the self locking 22 mm nut and washer. Ensure that the 22 mm nut is securely tightened (you wouldn't want this to come loose while driving!)

Install the bellow around the boss :

Mount the MOMO steering wheel and bolt on the six Allen screws using a 3 mm Allen key. Tighten them securely.

Fit the horn button and rubber pad surrounding it.

"find your own road" :-)
