Replacing 16V Rear brake pads on the classic SAAB 900
- by Shan

Lower the handbrake.
Remove the pad retaining clip.

Undo 14mm plug on the back of the caliper.

Wind out the 4 mm allen screw to retract the piston into the bore. A gap will appear between the pads and the disc.

Remove the two 7 mm allen screws securing the caliper to the carrier. The screws are hidden
inside a rubber spacer sleeve. The sleeve need not be removed. Removing the dust cap is
sufficient.

Slide the caliper to the rear and removed the old pads.

Notice on the new pads that one has a spring on the rear face. This is the inner pad and the
spring sits in the hollow recess of the brake piston. Fit the new inner pad onto the piston,
and position the outer pad on the carrier. Then tap in the caliper slightly to settle
everything in place.

Reinstall the two 7 mm allen screws securing the caliper to the carrier.

Reinstall the pad retaining clip.

Wind in the 4mm allen key until the pads contact the disc, and the disc locks. Wind back the
allen key 1/4 turn.
