Bajo Sexto Guitarron®

The bajo sexton a a rather large twelve string guitar used mainly in Mexican music as bass or accompaniment.

The guitarron is an enormous Mexican acoustic bass guitar, with six strings tuned ADGCEA, from low to high. The guitar has a huge and deep body to project its low bass notes.

Two strings are usually played together in octaves to increase their volume. The guitar is strapped over the shoulder, much like an electric guitar.

The guitar shown here has a violin style head and pearl markers on the fingerboard. It originally had eight strings.
