| Gene was 5'7" in height even though MGM said he was 5'9". During WWII, Gene was a sailor stationed at the U.S. Navel Photographic Center in Anacostica, DC. He starred in several Navy films while active on duty; and civilian films while on leave. He graduated from the Universty of Pittsburgh. Attended Peabody High School in Highland Park, PA. (October 1997) Ranked #26 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list. Introduced to the Theater Hall of Fame in 1992. Awarded the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1985. Had a half moom shaped scare on his left cheek caused by a wreak on a trycyle with no handles and got a piece of cast iron stuck in his cheek. Gene died due to complications from series of strokes. Gene's children are working as: Kerry is a psychologist Bridget works on costumes for the movies Tim is in the film industry. Gene's favorite movie that he made was 'On The Town' because of the on location shooting and it was his directorial debut at MGM. He never owned a movie that he made. |
