Our Favorite Teachers....
...often the wind beneath our wings!

OK..I'll start.  This is a picture of Miss Roling in Oct. of 1999.  I went by and said hello to her.  Her heart is not good, and she looks frail, but her voice and manner is still commanding.  The "arkie" accent is still there, and we flipped through the 1964 Derrick and talked of classmates.  Too bad I did not have all the good stories from our conversations of late.  She has yearbooks for 30 years of school...really.  Anyway..she was always my favorite.  I loved sports and she knew her stuff and cared about us.  I could tell.
Here's to you, Miss Roling!!  Joyce

Bill Kirkpatrick recalls:

Ben Smith was the only teacher who took any interest whatsoever about our 50 mile hike and, in fact, supplied coffee, soda and doughtnuts to us about halfway through, off the shoulder of Taft Highway near H St., sometime during late morning of that day.  He was a genuinely nice guy.
